We were lucky to catch up with Connor Huff recently and have shared our conversation below.
Connor , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
I didn’t get started in the health and wellness space until later in life, I actually had no idea that I had an interest in that until after college. I was raised in a pretty strict household where there was only one real way to live your life, which was college then get a 9-5, climb the corporate ladder etc etc. I quickly learned when I moved to LA and had my first 9-5 as a project manager how unhappy I was with my choice of career in life. I sat at my desk for majority of the day watching people live their life on Instagram and was so unhappy, I just didn’t know what else I could do in life. After about 4 years I left that job and because a field rep for pharmaceuticals which was better because at least I wasn’t at a desk all day and I got to drive around and travel in my car visiting Drs but I still wasn’t fulfilled. I did that for about a year until I decided I wanted to be a flight attendant. I was researching which airlines to work for and saw I could work on private jets and was fascinated with the opportunity, so I took the training and worked hard for a year studying and was able to get hired after a year of trying. I loved traveling around the world and getting paid to do so. While I did this I was super into health and fitness and had a large following of people who looked up to me for health advice on Instagram. It wasn’t until the pandemic happened and the world stopped that I finally had time to stop and really think about what I wanted to do long term with my life and what I was passionate about, which was vitamins. I started my line bare root remedy in the pandemic and never looked back. It’s been super challenging but rewarding , and I can’t wait to continue to grow my business

Connor , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into the health and wellness space after I started competing in body building competitions. I was doing these shows and killing them but then after I would step off stage I couldn’t figure out how to maintain the physique I was in. I started researching veganism and became vegan for a strict 5 years. After becoming vegan I got heavily into sports nutrition and herbalism. I wanted to know what fuels the body and how certain foods affect different parts of our body. I was working as a flight attendant and lost my job during Covid because like everyone else the world was shut down, This gave me a real opportunity to sit and think about what I really wanted to do with my life long term. I had realized I had a heavy influence on social media when it came to posting about all things health and wellness.I would post vitamins/recipes/workouts and have hundreds of people send me videos of them doing what I had posted. Thats when I realized I wanted to start my own supplement brand of products I truly believed in and used myself. I started my company Bare Root Remedy on the basis on launching products that I had used at some point in my life to treat an ailment of something I was suffering with. I love and respect our medical Drs that go to the front line for us everyday but I don’t know if I necessarily believe that western medicine is my personal preference in treating patients. As I studied herbalism and the effect that plants had on the body, I realized there was a better approach we could and should taking. So anytime I was dealing with health issues I started self diagnosing and treating myself with herbs and ultimately curing myself. This is when I knew I had to spread the knowledge to other people on the importance and effectiveness of plant medicine. I went to Dr. after Dr. for certain things with no explanation, then I turned to plants and was able to cure my ailments, it was incredible. That is why I strive to educate people not only on just my brad Bare Root but about plant medicine in general. Bare Root prides itself on being a holistic, herbal based supplement company that heals your body from the inside out. We get to the root of the problem instead of a quick fix which is what a lot of Pharma brands do. Bare root is very unique as we are not only black owned but women owned as well and trying to make a dent in this space were in. Theres not a lot of African American women out here with herbal supplement brands teaching you how to heal from the internal to shine externally. Our brand doesn’t have any additives or masked ingredients, what you see is what you get.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think that helped build my reputation & credibility in the health and wellness space was the fact that I actually lived the life I preach and post about. Unfortunately in todays day and age we have a lot of people who “post” a certain way and behind the scenes are a completely different person so its hard for people to actually believe what their selling. I didn’t just jump into selling herbs or into the supplement business, I actually lived this life and my purpose ended u finding me. I was so heavily into herbs and supplements that I used to go to Whole Foods and sit in the vitamin aisle with my notebook and just study because I wanted to know every herb. what they did, and everything behind it. I think a lot of times our purpose is right in front of us but we are too “busy” to see it. My purpose was always there but I was so busy flying country to country as a flight attendant that I wasn’t able to hear my calling yet. I just knew I lived this extremely healthy lifestyle, I was always taking a new online course to expand my knowledge and sharing this information unknowingly with my followers because I believed in it all. So when my full circle moment came to where now I am announcing I’m launching a herbal supplement brand, people believed me. It wasn’t anything knew, I’ve been doing this, just now with my own brand ;)

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
I started off at California polytechnic university as a business marketing major, shout out to SLO alum and if I could go back I might have changed my minor from communications into something in the health and wellness space but overall no I think everything has happened according to Gods plan and If I would changed anything I might not be exactly where I am today. Looking back I don’t even think I had a passion for health in college, I played basketball in high school but i didn’t even workout in college, well barely. I think ally knowledge with business marketing and sales positioned me to be the best Connor Morgan Huff that I am today. Although it would been nice to have a head start in the health and wellness field, I might not have wanted to pursue it after college had I studied that. So I thank God for exactly how things played out because its his plan not mine
