We were lucky to catch up with Malaysia Harrell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Malaysia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
At the core of Blissful Life Consulting lies a mission deeply rooted in holistic healing and empowerment. It’s not just about wellness; it’s about transforming lives. The company envisions a world where individuals, particularly women, can transcend their traumas, tap into their innermost strength, and lead fulfilling, aligned lives. And the soul of this mission? Malaysia Harrell. Malaysia’s early years were marked by challenges, serving as a pillar of strength in a family grappling with her mother’s mental health and addictions. This backdrop could have been a limiting narrative for many, but for Malaysia, it became a springboard for a life dedicated to healing and service.
Her academic achievements, with degrees in psychology and social work, set the stage for a career where she would touch over 28,000 lives with her unique blend of traditional and holistic approaches. Yet, it wasn’t just the degrees or her professional accolades that defined her journey; it was her personal experiences and unwavering resolve.
A life-altering moment came after her 2020 deployment when she faced a near-death experience. Instead of derailing her, this incident underscored her purpose. The gaps she perceived in the medical care system, especially its predisposition towards medication, pushed her further into advocating for complementary and alternative therapeutic methods.
Every venture, every initiative from Malaysia reflects the ethos of Blissful Life Consulting: to offer transformative pathways to wellness, and to encourage every individual to rise above adversities and embrace their most authentic selves. It’s more than a business; it’s a movement to create a ripple of positive change and holistic well-being.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
From a young age, the narrative of Malaysia Harrell’s life was interwoven with resilience, empathy, and a profound understanding of human complexity. Raised amidst challenges, stemming from her mother’s battles with mental illness and addictions, her youth was both a testament to resilience and the inception of a life-long quest to serve and empower others in their healing journeys. Growing up amidst the shadows of her mother’s struggles with mental illness and addiction, Malaysia bore witness to the fragility and resilience of the human spirit, shaping her future trajectory. Her academic pursuit in psychology and social work was a testament to her determination to transcend personal trauma and assist others on their journey to clarity. Today, with over two decades of professional experience, Malaysia’s approach isn’t just clinical; it’s personal. She embodies the very essence of her teachings, blending traditional mental health techniques with holistic methods. But what makes her unique is her ability to interweave clinical expertise with spiritual and holistic modalities.
Blissful Life Consulting, her brainchild, is more than just a consulting firm. It’s a sanctuary for those seeking to rise above their traumas, find clarity, and align with their life’s purpose. The offerings are diverse – from group work, retreats, and online courses to intimate coaching sessions and workshops. Each service is meticulously curated to address the multi-faceted challenges individuals face, ensuring a journey from pain to empowerment.
Yet, Malaysia’s offerings are not confined to conventional therapy. With her candle and concierge gift company, Blissful Home Candy, she ventured into aromatherapy, marrying the therapeutic potency of fragrances. It’s a holistic approach, using sensory experiences to promote healing.
What truly sets Malaysia apart is her personal journey, accentuated by a near-death experience post-deployment in 2020. This episode was not just a pivotal personal moment, but it deepened her commitment to advocating holistic healing pathways over predominant medication-reliant methods. The gaps she perceived in the medical care system, especially its predisposition towards medication, pushed her further into advocating for complementary and alternative therapeutic methods.
She’s proud of the transformative impact she’s cultivated, touching over 28,000 lives, guiding them towards holistic well-being, and empowering women to not just survive, but thrive.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
The echoes of September 11 still lingered in the air when Malaysia Harrell felt a call to action that would define her life’s journey. Driven by an unwavering commitment to serve her nation and its people, she was commissioned into the United States Air Force. This was only the beginning of her illustrious 20-year active-duty service, where she wore many hats, from a Board Certified Clinical Social Worker to a beacon of hope for the numerous lives she touched. Amidst the bureaucratic corridors of Washington D.C., as a young J.R.O.T.C. cadet, Malaysia’s heart already resonated with a patriotic tune. She was destined to serve. With every step in her career, she embraced challenges head-on, whether it was leading the addictions medicine program for the Department of Defense or working alongside the Surgeon General of the United States.
But it wasn’t all accolades and achievements. Her career also exposed her to the raw, unfiltered realities of human suffering. Her deployment in 2020 stands out as a stark testament. Amidst the devastating clutches of COVID-19, Malaysia found herself in the epicenter, the sole mental health provider for two medical centers in what she described as the most desolate part of the Navajo Nation.
Every day presented a new challenge, from the lurking dangers of stray animals to the soul-wrenching stories of trauma and death caused by the pandemic. The community’s plight deeply affected her, and the emotional toll manifested in her own health, both mentally and physically. A series of traumatic experiences, coupled with challenges navigating a complex medical system, left deep scars.
Yet, amidst the darkest clouds of despair, Malaysia’s spirit remained spiritually covered. The very essence of resilience is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall. And Malaysia exemplifies that. In every tremor of her voice, every tear shed, there’s an undying commitment to her duty, her family, and the countless souls she vowed to serve and protect.
In the face of unbearable pain and insurmountable challenges, she continues to serve, holding on to the threads of hope and dedication. Because, for Malaysia, service isn’t just a duty; it’s a calling.
Today, as she shares her story, it serves as an inspiring testament to the human spirit’s indomitable strength, a reminder that our will to persevere can outshine the darkest hours. To all those who read her tale, remember – in every challenge lies an opportunity to redefine our strength, and Malaysia’s journey epitomizes that very essence of resilience.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
In our formative years, society often imprints upon us the importance of stability, of finding a singular path and sticking to it. It champions the concept of loyalty to one organization, one company, one defined trajectory. I too, once subscribed to this conventional narrative. But as life unfolded, I came to realize that these notions were self-imposed shackles, limiting the vast expanse of our potential. Growing up, the concept of ‘mission’ was always central to my belief system. I held onto the notion that each of us is here for a unique purpose, a divine calling that is intrinsically tied to our very essence. However, the conventional wisdom I was surrounded by subtly nudged me towards associating this mission with a fixed organization or a static career path.
The transformative moment came when I discerned that our mission is not confined to the boundaries of an organization or the title on a business card. Our mission is fluid, dynamic, ever-evolving, much like the rivers that carve out paths through mountains and valleys, constantly finding new routes, but always moving towards the vastness of the ocean.
I had to unlearn the idea that loyalty to one’s mission equated to loyalty to one institution. This unlearning was not an overnight epiphany but a gradual realization. With each experience, with every twist and turn in my journey, I grasped that my true allegiance was to the essence of my mission, not its temporary vessels.
And so, the back story is one of continuous evolution. A tale of shedding layers of societal expectations, of discarding outdated paradigms, and embracing the profound truth that our mission transcends man-made constructs. It’s about understanding that our duty is to serve wherever our calling takes us, even if it means charting unknown territories.
Walking in divine purpose requires an unwavering commitment to one’s inner compass. It’s about recognizing that our ‘why’, the core reason behind our actions, is the true North Star guiding our journey. And as we walk this path, it’s imperative to be adaptable, to recognize when a chapter has served its purpose, and to have the courage to turn the page, knowing a new adventure awaits.
In essence, the most profound lesson has been understanding that our mission is not a destination but a journey. It’s a dance between staying true to one’s purpose and being flexible enough to let the winds of change guide us to where we’re most needed. It’s about cherishing the journey, with all its ups and downs, and remembering that at the core of it all, it’s our ‘why’ that truly matters.
