Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brandon Silvera. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brandon, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
The day a man named Jay contacted me about purchasing 2000 of my sneaker photos to publish in The Encyclopedia of Air Jordans. That was a crazy moment for me. I took that money and bought myself my first full frame camera with it. In the same year, I had a company fly me out to Chicago for 2 weeks to shoot cars and I made $8,000. It helped get my mom off my back about dropping out of college after a week.

Brandon, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve always been artistic. Early on in my life, I drew a lot. So that was the first sign. I still have those drawings which is crazy. I should take them out and maybe frame some. Another thing I was always into was taking photos. Not even from an artistic perspective but just because I naturally enjoyed it. I remember going to NY and filling up my moms camera with photos I took in one day. She wasn’t happy about it but we kept the photos and I have that camera on ym dresser looking at me as I type this. Fast forward to high school where I discovered Tumblr. It was a real eye opener to things I’ve never seen before. Seeing what other people were doing with a camera was inspiring and I wanted to get into it immediately.
I was taking photos with my little point and shoot, editing them in PicNik thinking I was really doing something haha. For my 16th birthday I asked my mom for a DSLR and I got one. Ironically, the night before my birthday, my grandfathers old film camera fell out of my moms closet on top of me and that was really the sign for me to pursue photography. My grandfather died the day before my 9th birthday so that moment really hit home for me. I look at it as a birthday gift from him in heaven. From that moment on, I’ve had a camera in my hand and it has changed my life completely.
From there I dove straight into doing automotive work mainly. Like most guys, I was already into cars so that was a bonus. I still dabbled in fashion, lifestyle, products and portraits but I just loved shooting cars. I had a job in Fort Lauderdale doing all the content, social media managing and marketing for 2 retail apparel stores and after that, I worked at Porsche and a Ferrari Racing team doing the same thing. Now, I creative direct for a friends Fin Tech company and lifestyle brand as well as doing my own thing.
What Im most proud of honestly is being able to sustain myself for this long as a creative. Not only that but seeing how much progress Ive made really trips me out. The level Im at now seemed so unobtainable when I was younger but here I am. However, theres still so much more for me to do achieve and learn. I guess that’s what gives me the drive to never give up.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The main reason I love photography is I get to show the world from my perspective and imagination. There’s beauty in everything but the majority of people can’t see it. But besides that, I just want to have an everlasting impact on society in some way.

How did you build your audience on social media?
In 2010 I made a Tumblr account and I was on there constantly posting anything and everything. I did a lot of “trolling” but I posted a lot of my photos and ideas that gained a lot of attention. By 2015 I had 400,000 followers and all of that overflowed to all the other social media platforms. Now that I look back, seeing that girls Facebook post with a link to Tumblr changed my life. If I never clicked that link, I don’t think I would’ve been who I am today.
