We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Emily Nader. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Emily below.
Emily, appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I’m definitely a big risk taker. As I see it, I take risks every day. There are certain times that stand out more than others though.
Like the time I decided to move across the country at 17 years old to go to college where I didn’t know anyone or anything in the environment.
Or the time I didn’t have a ticket to the sold out concert, but I was able to get myself not only backstage, but on-stage with a “media pass” and into VIP.
Or the time when I last minute decided to fly standby for a job interview, got a first-class seat from Los Angeles to New York City, a job offer in a building on Wall Street, and got to call New York my new home.
The one risk that REALLY stands out, was the time I quit that job in New York City to move back to Los Angeles to start my career in the Health and Fitness world.
All of these risks I took, led me down the path I am currently on. Sometimes the decision seems so big and overwhelming because we know it can mean a lot of change; without recognizing that change is what we truly desire. Change leads to growth. I’ve taken these risks in my life with confidence, knowing that no matter what, everything will be okay, and trusting myself to figure it out. We don’t need to know how it’s all going to turn out. We can only have faith in ourselves that it will work in our favor…and if it doesn’t, no big deal, we learn, pivot, and change direction.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Before I quit my job in NYC, I began to establish myself in the fitness industry on Instagram and began studying for the ACSM-CPT Exam (American College of Sports Medicine-Certified Personal Trainer). I studied Kinesiology Movement Science at Penn State and had previous internship experience in biomechanics research and performance training, however, my first paid job in the fitness industry was as an F45 Trainer. Then, I started working as a Sports Performance Coach for VIBE Volleyball Lab and also working as a Lead (an intra-preneurial role) for MIRROR at lululemon. Always continuing my education, I received my NSCA-CSCS (National Strength and Conditioning Association-Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist), as well as my Health Coaching Certification through IIN (Institute for Integrative Nutrition).
OKAY, I know. “Emily, that all SOUNDS GREAT, but WHAT ABOUT YOUR PERSONAL STRUGGLES?”
Along with taking risks, there has also been a series of wake up calls along the way…negative side-effects from a reliance on pharmaceutical and over-the-counter medication, multiple existential crises, self doubt, and lots of tears. I decided to get back to my roots and who I am naturally as a human being and as a spiritual being. Uncovering the truth. Remembering who I am. That’s what I wanted.
What I was really experiencing deep down, was a calling toward something greater. To help me move forward, I always think, how can I challenge myself? Where and how can I learn more? What kind of experience is going to help me get closer to where and who I want to be (even if I don’t know exactly what that looks like)?
Now, as a Strength Trainer, Nutrition and Health Coach, I’ve established my own business to serve my clients with the well-rounded, variety of knowledge and experiences I’ve had. My experiences have helped me demonstrate a new level of confidence in my ability to help people achieve their own health and wellness goals. On top of that, it’s also helped me get closer to who I want to be and has shaped me as the person I am today. Because I’ve dedicated myself to a life full of learning, my clients know they will continue to grow within themselves when they work along-side me.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
If I could go back, every time I’d choose health first. Learning how to take care of your health is one of the best tools that you can have. If you can do that, you’re set no matter what profession or industry you step into. You’ll create more energy, love, and great experiences in your life.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Being curious and willing to learn will create more opportunities for growth within any field. Meet new people aligned with your values and nurture these connections. You never know who will present you with new opportunities, be a potential business partner, collaborator, and friend for life.
