We were lucky to catch up with Heena Jain recently and have shared our conversation below.

Heena, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?

Growing up as a child..I have always been really passionate about creative work. Weather it be handwriting, arts ,crafts or fashion design. I grew up getting a formal education and college degree in Media but always mostly focused on opportunities that required creative acumen. In my teenage years..I started teaching Calligraphy and Crafts to young kids and this later transformed me into becoming an independent fashion designer running my own Traditional fashion Boutique in Mumbai, India. I always had an interest in Photography as it complemented all creative fields but never got to explore it as a full time career when I was in India.

I ultimately had to move to USA after marriage and had to decide how I can continue to harness my creative intelligence here in USA. Indian traditional fashion would be a very niche area and I did not see a good product market fit for it here in the USA . So I decided to pivot and explore other digital fields like Website / Graphic Design and Photography Editing services. I saw an opportunity in Photography and decided to take up a Hospital Newborn photography job to learn more about it. I started really enjoying it and started to learn the skill more and master it. It also seemed to make good business sense as these was a decent market for those services and there was a lot of room to grow within it. It also had the level of flexiblity that I needed to meet our future family needs.

Heena, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

I am a fine art Photographer specializing in Maternity and Newborn Photography and have spent 10 years perfecting the art of capturing portraits for the most important moments in people’s life. It took a lot of patience, persistence, curiosity, hard work and dedication to get to this point but it was all well worth it and I am grateful to everyone who supported me in this journey.

All along, I have believed that starting a family is one of the most beautiful event in anyone’s life and it is worth capturing in the mesmerizing timelessness of fine art portraiture. It certainly deserves to be the finest piece of work that I can produce for them and always strive to exceed my client’s expectations at every step of the way.

Pregnancy is an exceptional phase that truly evokes courage, care, love, pride, patience, beauty and sensuality of a woman all while she is on the cusp of embracing Motherhood. Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

I have had to pivot several times in my career depending on the circumstances and situation that required it. I started off as an intern doing Graphic and website designing and then starting my own fashion design boutique as my interst in fashion grew. I had to pivot towards Photography after arriving in the USA as Indian Fashion would not have as much demand here in the USA.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

Working in Photography requires lots of patience and persistence as it takes a lot to learn this art well and then make into something that you can sell and make a living out of is even more difficult. There is lot of uncertainty but if you are passionate about it, you can move thru a lot of these hurdles and slowly but surely start to realize your dream.
