We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jasna Boudard. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jasna below.
Jasna, appreciate you joining us today. One of the most important things small businesses can do, in our view, is to serve underserved communities that are ignored by giant corporations who often are just creating mass-market, one-size-fits-all solutions. Talk to us about how you serve an underserved community.
As a wedding photographer, my brand Travel Weddings is intended to serve multicultural weddings. Within the wedding industry, most photographers specialize in Christian weddings, Indian weddings, Latin weddings, etc. But in our current day and age, the number of couple who identify with multiple cultures do not have many photographers who specifically understand their needs and unique situations. As a multicultural person myself, I celebrate the fusion of various cultures coming together to create one of a kind experiences.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is Jasna Boudard.
I’m an award-winning photographer and the founder of Travel Weddings.
Originally French and Bangladeshi, I grew up discovering the world. My mixed heritage and extensive travels have taught me to appreciate diversity and honor unity. I believe despite all our differences, love is our fundamental commonality.
Through photography, I explore the ways in which love manifests in diverse cultures. I have had the honor to document weddings from the USA, France, Japan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Eritrea, and even Burning Man!
I am based in Dallas, Texas and will happily meet you anywhere!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think ultimately, like in any field, being a good person goes a long way. I’m someone who cares a lot about my clients and their special day. I grew up fantasizing about my own wedding, and I do everything in my power to help dreams come true for my clients. I think they can feel that, as 90% of my work comes from referrals and word of mouth. Since I niched into multicultural weddings, I think my clients also appreciate feeling “seen” in a sea of traditional weddings. Be a good human and care about the people you’re serving :)
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
After years of trying to figure out everything by myself (from how to do photography to how to run a business), I wish I knew about facebook groups earlier. These online communities based on a common topic (such as wedding photography, marketing, local groups, anything really!) are gold mines of resources and useful information. Group members are usually super supportive and help answer each other’s questions. It’s also a great place to meet other individuals, I’ve made several friends through it!
Don’t ever think you’re alone in what you do, community exists.
