Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Susan Hyatt. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Susan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
Last year, I found myself at a crossroads. It felt like I was standing in the middle of my business, match in hand, ready to set everything on fire. My business was (and is) successful. But at that point what I had built, though successful on paper, no longer filled my heart with joy.
I questioned my decisions and next steps.
Do I shut down my popular mastermind, even if it brings in millions, to make space for other projects that light up my soul?
Do I talk about the things I want to talk about, even if they’re unpopular opinions?
Do I stop certain marketing strategies to make room for new ways of promoting my business?
Finally, clarity hit. If I want to take my work to a whole new level… then I can’t run my business in the exact same way I’ve done things in the past. To get to a new level, this requires new risks, new systems, and no more holding back.
I bet on myself.
I shut down my popular business mastermind and started a new one called Beyond, which is focused on life beyond just professional aspirations. It was a hit – selling out quickly.
I brought to life a new program – Big Yes Energy – that’s filled with amazing women saying yes to themselves.
I stopped holding back and started being myself – full out – in every corner of my business. (Including turning myself into a superhero – costume and all.)
I stopped wasting time with long-winded meetings and complicated business structures. I pared down and simplified.
I’m now more profitable and have way more joy.
I’m no longer just running a business; I’m curating joy, for myself and for others.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a Master Certified Life and Business Coach, Bestselling Author, and TEDx speaker.
I’ve been featured on national TV and in magazines like O: The Oprah Magazine, Cosmopolitan, Seventeen, and Woman’s World and was a finalist for the Athena Award, recognizing leadership in the field of women’s empowerment and entrepreneurship.
I wrote the bestselling book BARE that has inspired women all over the world to stop shrinking their bodies and start expanding their lives.
I delivered a speech to a sold-out audience at the country’s largest TEDx conference about why women need to stop obsessing about their weight and instead focus on earning money, gaining power, smashing the patriarchy, and running the world.
Today, I help women shatter glass ceilings, smash the patriarchy, and ditch the invisible workload to claim more power, joy, wealth, and everything else they want.
When I’m not hyping up my clients, leading epic retreats, or making a scene – you can find me swooning over the roses in my garden, cuddling my sweet pups Mork + Mindy, running through beautiful trails with my best friend, and telling my husband that he needs to take on more of my “invisible workload” so I can earn more and rest more.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Here are my tips for building an audience on social media:
1. Use Your Authentic Voice (Even If It’s Cringe!)
First off, remember that ‘cringe’ is subjective. What feels awkward to you might resonate deeply with someone else. Whether you’re ranting about your pet peeves, geeking out about your favorite 80’s sitcom, or sharing an embarrassing story, it’s your unique voice that will draw people in. Authenticity shines brighter than any filter.
2. Wear Whatever The Hell You Want
A revealing swimsuit? That bold color that “might be too much”? Rock them. Your style is an extension of your personality. Wear what makes you feel good, not what you think you should wear, or worrying if people might be “offended”.
3. Don’t Shrink Your Personality
The world doesn’t need another cookie-cutter influencer. It needs you. Whether you’re a loud talker, an overthinker, or someone with an offbeat sense of humor, don’t hold back.
4. Be Consistent
Consistency isn’t about posting every day; it’s about being consistent in your authenticity. Whether you post once a day or once a week, make sure your content consistently reflects who you are. Over time, this reliability will build trust and loyalty among your followers.
Does your business have multiple or supplementary revenue streams (like a ATM machine at a barbershop, etc)?
In additional to my coaching business, I’m also a real estate investor with over a dozen properties sprawled across Indiana. I also have what I call “boring money” – cash that is earned through things like the washer and dryer at one of my apartment complexes. That money pays the mortgage on the property!
