We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Geetha Rao. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Geetha below.
Hi Geetha, thanks for joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I have always been an artist. As a child I would spend hours using watercolors to captures scenes and memories. My further college education as an architect led me to learn other techniques like rendering in pen and ink, perspectives and a foundation on drafting and drawing.
A few years ago, on a whim I took an oil painting class, and got hooked. I learnt to use my palette knife to create textured pieces and use it to create most of my oil paintings. I think my main obstacle is finding time in my busy life to paint.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am known for my medium size works that provide a burst of color and joy in your space. My style is mainly impressionistic with lots of bright colors, layers and textures. I paint landscapes, florals and nature themes. I only sell originals and I have affordable pieces that fit any budget. I usually have most of my work visible on Instagram at @raoart.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I would hope that society supports artists by buying original works rather than mass market products that are sold in big box stores. An artist can provide insight and create according to the clients taste and wishes. When you support an artist, you are supporting a small business.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I love it when clients buy a special piece as part of their home. I hope it adds to their journey and provides a touch of originality in their special space.
