We recently connected with Braxton Garms and have shared our conversation below.
Braxton, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I have always been interested in videos and pictures. As a little kid, I used to watch this video of a Christmas with my family, over and over and over. Eventually the VHS cassette tape wore out.
In the back of my mind as I grew up, I wanted to be a creator.
I had worked for jobs for a long time in one area and that was food service. I eventually got tired of food service. So I invested some time into learning a new career field.
I fell in love with photography.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Braxton Garms. I am the owner and operator of Bkg Photography. I started this journey back in 2019. I was playing with my ex-wife camera and I noticed how much I enjoyed taking pictures. Further on down the line go back to school to learn about photography. I am a senior at Collin College finishing up my degree. I will be graduating in 2024 with an associates in photography.
I think my attitude and the willingness to adjust to the customers needs, as white sets me apart. I love people. I love serving people. I also like making them look good.
I’m excited that I finally found something that I can pour myself into. I also found something that I love doing.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
There is a student who is in school with me, that says she wants to quit every time things get hard for her in photography. This is the same student that encouraged me never to quit school. The other day she texted me again and said I want to quit. I told her that’s fine but I’m quitting to. She didn’t like that very much. I was making her see that she should quit. I’m going to finish.
When you’re in over your head and you’re frustrated, I can understand why you would want to quit. But if you take time to just sit back and realize that bad days are going to happen, and bad, things might happen, but that’s not a good reason to quit. Keep pushing! You can do it.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Well, I got interested in photography while I was married. Unfortunately I got divorced. So since I was getting a divorce, I figured it was a great time to re-create myself. So I started taking classes in photography. The rest is pretty much history. I really love photography and I am learning more and more every day.
