We were lucky to catch up with Markeisha Brown recently and have shared our conversation below.
Markeisha, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
You know, it’s funny how life can take you on unexpected journeys. When I think about when I first realized I wanted to pursue a creative and artistic path professionally, it wasn’t one of those lightning bolt moments you hear about from childhood dreams. Initially, I was head over heels for science and dreamed of becoming a pediatrician. But as time passed, my perspective evolved. I found myself constantly capturing moments through photos and videos, arranging things in visually pleasing ways – it was exhilarating, even though I didn’t quite know what to call it back then. I had this innate urge to arrange products and food dishes in a way that was pleasing to the eye, almost like crafting my own visual stories.
I used to joke about wanting to name Essie’s nail polishes because I admired their creativity. Then, after three years of working at a hospital in California, something didn’t feel right. There was an unsettled feeling within me, a sense that I was meant for something different.
That’s when it hit me – my true passion was in creativity and storytelling. It was a shift that felt natural and thrilling, like coming home to a place I never knew I belonged. Life’s journey isn’t always a straight line, but a series of discoveries and realizations that lead us to our true passions.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Markeisha, and my path into the creative world has been an exciting adventure. As I mentioned earlier, my passion for creativity and storytelling emerged as I evolved from my initial dream of becoming a pediatrician. It was a gradual realization that led me to where I am today. It’s been a rollercoaster with unpredictable twists and turns, and I’m still hanging on, learning and growing every day.
I’ve delved into photography, videography, content creation, and brand development. My aim is to help individuals and businesses craft compelling narratives through visual mediums, solving the challenge of standing out in today’s crowded digital landscape. What sets me apart is my unique blend of analytical thinking and creative flair. I approach each project with a strategic mindset, ensuring that every visual element aligns with the broader narrative and goals.
So, what’s my deal? I’m all about celebrating the sparkle in life, whether it’s in style or in those little magical moments. You see, it’s not just about what I do; it’s about the experiences I create, for both myself and others. With every interaction, my goal is to inspire, educate, and entertain in a way that goes beyond the surface level. I want to leave you with a warm feeling inside, like you’ve just had a delightful chat with a friend. Oh, and did I mention the quirky side of me? I’ve unintentionally caused a fair share of laughs in my time, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I dive deep into beauty, from achieving that radiant glow to making bold statements. Fashion isn’t just clothes; it’s an art form for self-expression, and I’m here to curate outfits and embrace individuality through style. But that’s not all. I’ve got a wanderlust heart with a passport that’s always ready for the next adventure. My mission is to empower, not just sell stuff. I’m here to share genuine thoughts on products and experiences, helping you make choices that resonate with your unique journey.
When it comes to products and recommendations, I don’t play it fast and loose. Oh no, I take my time, do my research, and make sure I truly believe in what I’m presenting. I’m not the kind of person who’ll simply show you a product and say, “Buy this!” No, I’m all about informing and guiding. I want you to make choices that genuinely resonate with your needs and preferences.
Connecting with others is something I hold dear. Building and fostering connections is like adding colorful threads to the fabric of life. It’s about creating a community where we can share our passions, discoveries, and dreams. Whether it’s in the realm of beauty, fashion, travel, or storytelling, I’m here to connect with kindred spirits who share a love for the vibrant tapestry of life.
So, in a nutshell, my journey is about more than just aesthetics and creativity; it’s about the people, the connections, and the experiences we create together. What I want potential clients and followers to know about me is that I’m not just a creative professional; I’m a storyteller who thrives on innovation and strategic thinking. If you’re looking for someone who’s dedicated to inspiring, educating, and entertaining while fostering meaningful connections, you’ve found your partner in this beautiful journey we call life.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Absolutely, there’s a fascinating aspect of the creative journey that might not be immediately apparent to non-creatives. Being a creative is a rollercoaster of ups and downs, and it often comes with a set of expectations that can be challenging to meet.
You see, some folks may assume that creating content, whether it’s photography, videos, or any other form of art, is a walk in the park. They might think all it takes is picking up a camera or a brush and letting the magic happen. But the reality is quite different. Being a content creator involves a myriad of skills and knowledge, from understanding the technical aspects to mastering the art of storytelling.
Moreover, the creative path demands patience. Growth doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time and persistence to hone your craft and find your unique voice. It’s like planting a seed and watching it slowly sprout into a magnificent tree. And during this process, you’ll face criticism and encounters with people who may not appreciate or understand your work.
That’s where the tough skin comes in. As a creative, you have to embrace the fact that not everyone will resonate with your creations, and that’s perfectly okay. It’s about staying true to your vision and expressing yourself authentically. Sometimes, it also means knowing when to step back, refresh yourself mentally and emotionally, and return to your work with renewed vigor.
So, for those who think it’s all sunshine and rainbows in the creative world, it’s essential to recognize the resilience, dedication, constant learning, and the importance of self-care that go into crafting the art that we share with the world.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
There was a time when I was deeply entrenched in my career at a hospital, working tirelessly in the healthcare field. It was a path I had envisioned for myself, one I had invested years of education and dedication into. But as life would have it, there came a moment of reckoning.
I had been at the hospital in California for 5+ years, and while I was doing valuable work, something felt off. It was like a quiet but persistent whisper in the back of my mind, a sense of restlessness that refused to be ignored. It was a pivotal moment when I had to confront a profound realization – my heart wasn’t fully in the healthcare world anymore.
It was a challenging decision to make, considering the time and effort I had already invested in that career. But I knew I couldn’t ignore my newfound passion for creativity and storytelling any longer. So, I made the brave choice to pivot, to step away from the familiar and venture into the unknown.
Leaving my secure job was daunting, and I encountered my fair share of doubts and uncertainties along the way. Leaving my secure job was daunting, and I encountered my fair share of doubts and uncertainties along the way. Taking a leap of faith, I wasn’t sure where I would land. I had to start over, and that process was mentally and emotionally challenging.
But this pivot, this shift in my life’s trajectory, was a pivotal moment that led me to where I am today. I made another bold move, this time across the ocean. I left California and ventured to the UK to pursue a master’s degree in Digital Marketing, embracing the opportunity to delve deeper into the creative and strategic world of marketing.
Starting anew in a different country, away from the familiar faces and places, has been a profound experience. It is testing my resilience and determination, but it is also opening doors to incredible growth and learning opportunities. It has been a journey filled with both challenges and triumphs, and it’s reinforcing my belief in the power of embracing change and following your passion.
Looking back, I’m immensely proud of that pivotal decision to pivot and start over. It was a courageous step that allowed me to discover my true passion and purpose, even if it meant leaving behind what was once familiar. Life’s journey can be unpredictable, but it’s in those moments of change and transformation that we often find our most significant opportunities for growth and self-discovery.
