We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Amanda Garbade a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Amanda, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
Just one defining moment? That is so hard to answer because of my belief system. I believe all moments are defining moments. Every moment of every day is a defining moment. When every moment is special and pure; when moment after moment is innocent; when your awareness is brought to the present moment over and over with love and peace, then every moment is a defining moment. The more we do this, the more defining moments we recognize. Yet knowing this and doing this are two totally different things. It’s easy to get sucked into daily life. We forget because we’re focused on work, dinner, running kids to activities, and the 10,000 other things that are on our plates. So, one of my defining moments while embarking on my new career as a hypnotherapist was when I truly accepted and understood one simple concept. It’s a concept we all know and a lot of us were taught at a young age. Some people, because of their belief system, turned a completely innocent phrase to mean something negative. While other people, because of their belief system, turned it into a tool and a motto to help drive them. What is it? “Practice makes perfect.” When approached with shame, guilt, and fear, to name a few, this phrase can be discouraging, bringing up thoughts and feelings of unworthiness, not good enough, and so on. Yet, when approached with innocence, love, and peace, it is easy to see the simple lesson and nothing more. At first I struggled with letting these old concepts go, so what I found that helped was changing the words until I could fully say the phrase without having any ill feelings. So try on, practice makes better, and practice just a little more each day bringing your awareness into the present moment and surrounding it with the highest perspective, peace, love, innocence, grace, and ease. Better and better every day in every way!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I always believed there was something more out there, more than what I could see. Yet, I never had the courage to take the risks to explore that unknown. I worked in the corporate world, got married, and had kids. Until one day, I decided to stop living the life I thought I was supposed to live and started living the life I desired to live. I went back to school to learn hypnotherapy as a dare to myself. Was it really possible to get a degree in hypnotherapy? What I got was so much more. My eyes were opened to so many things that simply amazed me. Now, I am a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist and Mind Coach helping people use the power of their minds to heal. I am a firm believer in the power of our minds to help us heal physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually, and I love guiding people on their healing journey; we all have our own path. So, what I offer is simple. I help people raise their vibration. I offer online hypnotherapy and coaching sessions to help people release blocks and barriers, overcome emotions holding them back, release and manage stress, weight, and much more. When we do this, we energetically release lower energies and open ourselves to higher energies such as love and peace. The possibilities are endless.
To go deeper into healing karma, ancestral lessons, and to explore the deepest questions of life, I also offer past life and spiritual regression. Spiritual Regression involves a powerful hypnosis technique, with set questions/goals in mind, to go back (regress) to the time in between your last life and your current life, also called a Life Between Lives session. These profound sessions help bring deeper healing and a deeper understanding of the meaning of life, the people in your life, and your purpose.
In each session, we talk about your goals, what’s bothering you that you want less of and what’s good that you want more of. I use progressive relaxation, which allows for a pleasant experience to allow yourself to let go easily and effortlessly in a place that is right and safe for you. Each session is customized to you. After the session, we’ll debrief and discuss what is different. With every session you have with me, you are training your brain to be more aware and in the moment, to be mindful, to pay attention, and to focus on the highest good. If we all infused love into every situation we encounter, could you imagine how much more love there would be in the world?
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Other than book smarts, establishing a daily practice and practicing mindfulness daily is crucial for success in not just my field but any field. The benefits of mindfulness have been studied for decades and cross into all industries, professions, and even our personal lives. When we are more mindful, we tend to be more in control of our emotions and can step back from any situation with an objective point of view. When we are mindful, we open ourselves up to additional information that may have gone unnoticed otherwise. Practicing mindfulness can be as simple as taking a moment to go within when you wake up to set an intention for a successful day or to be thankful for waking up. Another simple example is to take a moment before you sleep to think about and be grateful for the day or specific parts of your day. Start with a minute, then take 5 minutes. Pretty soon, you will want to take more for yourself, and you will do it because it makes you feel good.
Have you ever had to pivot?
If you are reading this, then you were around when Covid hit. At the time, I had an office out of my home, and like many others, I shut down my brick and mortar business and sheltered in place. I cancelled all of my scheduled clients and had new clients trying to make appointments for in-person sessions that I turned away as well. I had a couple of clients online already that we used Zoom for so I was familiar with conducting sessions online. Some of my in-person clients transitioned to online, which was great because it meant I could still help. As I did more and more sessions online, I was getting even better results. What was the difference? I believe the major difference is you are more comfortable in your own setting. This allows people to relax even more so they can access those deeper states of trance. Plus, they felt more comfortable opening up. Still, I lost a lot of clients when Covid hit. Realizing online was the way to go, I had to change my marketing, how I attracted clients. So, I signed up for a few different online platforms in which I was allowed to showcase my business and made a few other changes. Now, all of my sessions are online, and I’m loving it! Everything happens for a reason!
