www.therclawgroup.comWe were lucky to catch up with Ria Chattergoon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ria, thanks for joining us today. Has Covid resulted in any major changes to your business model?
Covid has actually improved my practice. My entire staff became more efficient with technology, the courts finally allowed remote appearances which cut down on travel time for court appearances and clients were more open to meeting on Zoom.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I represent mainly high level executive women in my employment cases and women in my personal injury cases. In addition to providing solid legal advice, I believe my clients see themselves in me. Most of my clients become friends following completion of their cases. Pursuing a legal case is stressful and emotional. Clients need someone who will take an interest in their case and explain the process to them, in detail. I believe this is what sets me apart from some lawyers. My firm is small – decidedly so – so that I can give superb service.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Doing good work. 100% of my business comes from referrals from clients and colleagues.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Not everyone tells the truth. Clients don’t always give you the entire story and sometimes it takes a little digging to uncover a full story. Even when a client is a good person, that doesn’t always make it a great case. Knowing how to pick and choose a case is imperative to sustaining a practice.
