Teresa , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
I’ve taken many risks, I’m a careful risk taker if you will, the first was to go to school to be a M.A., that landed an 8 year career at the same cardio office. Which paid off pretty well, I believe without that risk I would have never taken my second risk which was taking a step back from that to pursue Esthetics school. This landed me a career as a lash tech. Where I again took a huge risk and opened up my first lash studio Luxe Lash Bar in Mesa Az. That was definitely slow in the beginning but after getting my name out there I maintained a very steady business for the past 7 years. Just recently, the end of May, my husband and I made the decision to leave Arizona and move to Colorado. Closing my business and leaving family was not a decision we came to lightly, although I do not regret that decision, starting all over again, gaining new clientele in a new city where I don’t know anyone has been slow. I’m not one to give up and I know my work speaks for itself, although still a risk not knowing, just as it was before. I had almost forgotten how slow it was for me in the beginning 7 years ago. So here I am in Colorado Springs with a new name, Sinful Beauty, same beautiful lashes and same strong work ethic.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started with Amazing Lash in Mesa Az, Jan 2017 by August 2017 I had opened Luxe Lash Bar. I am very proud of the work I do. Lashes comes super natural for me so Im very quick which is what has drawn a lot of people to me along with my style of lash extensions. I have tried many different adhesives and found my jewel with EBL, I have two certifications with Borboleta Beauty. My lash extensions are very natural but very full. My clients are always telling me how much they are complimented, although very full, they still look natural and do not weigh the eye down. They do not feel heavy and are not able to feel the glue. My specialty is definitely volume, I am very fast at what I do and the quality is top notch. I have always been proud of the compliments my client receive while out and about, my clients recommending me to others is the greatest gift of all.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
The money to open Luxe Lash Bar came from my husband and I working and saving. I never started out with the fanciest table or chair or decor. I started out with what was going to work. I invested the most money on the actual lash extensions and adhesive, as that would be what spoke to my clients. As I built my business I would upgrade as I went, a nicer bed nicer decor and so forth.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What built my reputation was how I created my lash extensions. My work ethic and how long my clients could go between fills. The fact that I was fast at what I do was also a huge thing for many.
