We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rae Lee a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Rae, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you share a story that illustrates an important or relevant lesson you learned in school
When I was in high school, my English teacher wanted us to do a 2-3 page paper on a topic of our choice. I chose snakes because I was really interested in all kind of animals and spent quite a bit of time at the zoo. I turned the paper in and was sure it was an A paper. It was all that she had asked for and more. Clearly, I was wrong and I made an D on the paper. When I asked the teacher why I received a D; she stated that I was a great writer and wasted my talent on snakes. I explained to her why I chose to write about snakes and how interesting they are to me. She was so incensed and told me that I should used my writing talent for a more meaningful topic like women’s suffrage. She told me that I was a really good writer. That has stuck with me through the years and keeps me focus to write something meaningful, positive, good, and impactful.

Rae, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I formed Rae Lee Presents, LLC simply on the bases of whatever I create or be a part of I want it to be impactful when presenting it to the world. I am a children author, writers, creative, and visionary. Writing has always been a passion but I have never been more serious about until the past couple of years. I have written poetry, songs, short stories etc… the list goes on. It’s a gift. God gifts are often far greater than what we see on the surface of ourselves and the individuals around us. You can’t run from the gift that is inside of you. It will open up even as you try to push it down or hide it. I have learned to unwrap the gifts with excitement and use them for the purpose it was given.
Currently, I provides read my book at for schools, daycares, youth programs just to name a few and speak to children about being an author. I read my books Big Truck Big Truck which is for ages 3-6 and Making Room for Grandpa for ages 7-12. I am also touring around the country to promote my books.
I am most proud of being committed and dedicated to making content in books that children can be excited about reading and learning. Giving a child an opportunity to read a book will do so much for them. For me, reading was such a great outlet; it helped me understand and comprehend all the other subjects (i.e. math, science, history) that came along with it. I love to see a child reading because just maybe one day they will do something great for the world.
My brand and company is evolving and venturing into other areas of art. So, definitely be on the look out for something greater from Rae Lee Presents.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My faith in God is what’s driving me creative journey. For years, I focused on other career choices and lent my time and energy to those things. Periodically, I would write a poem, or a short story. I saw myself doing other things like making a movie or being a playwright. However, I didn’t pursue any of those interest. Honestly, it is all God. My mission is to bring art to people through my books, writing, film, and entertainment.
I know what kind of audience I am and I know there are people out here like me. They would want to see good and healthy material be it comedy or drama or both. The fact that it’s all possible for my dreams to become a reality. I am going to continue to step out on faith.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is the people I meet. I love to hear their stories of their journey. It is inspiring to hear another person story and know you are not the only one on this journey. Meeting different people inspires me to create and I hope I inspire someone to create. It can be infectious.
