We recently connected with BRE.iSH and have shared our conversation below.
BRE.iSH, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
As an upcoming Artist, One of the things i Hear the Most is “Learn the Business”. You hear Tons of Stories about how people learned the business or the time they got taken advantage of or didn’t get paid etc. But people Rarely ever talk about Their Love for the Craft, and how they learned all of the little tidbits of knowledge that help them create on the professional level in which they operate. I Pride myself on having a hunger for knowledge and take every opportunity that i can to learn something new. So to me, Learning The Craft is Just As Important as Learning the Business behind the Craft.
There were always people in my corner readily available to help but something about finding the knowledge on your own makes it stick. In 2018, I decided to purchase Recording Studio Equipment for use at home. Okay Great! But having the Equipment is only one piece of the jigsaw puzzle because its all about what you can do with it. I fumbled around for about a year making decent quality music with terrible mixes and not understanding that theres so much more to recording music than the perfect take and not peaking. Thats when I dedicated myself to understanding how to mix. I was ready to move to the next Level and being a student to the Craft was the only way that was able to happen.
A Huge Contributing factor to the knowledge i have now about mixing and sound profiles is YOUTUBE. I always say we are so blessed to live in the Digital age where information is readily available and just at our fingertips. It puts us in a position to continuously be a student to our Crafts, no matter what that Craft is, you can learn something you don’t know about it. Alot of People don’t realize it but having the openness to just receive new information is very detrimental to Growth. And i will say, Sonically, its very amazing to be able to track that growth and hear the differences between when i first started out and now.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I, BRE.iSH, am from Inglewood California and have been singing and dancing since I was two years old. My passion for music has only grown stronger with time. With my seasoned experience in live shows all over the country, I am a performer who prides myself on captivating audiences of all ages. In 2018, I had the opportunity to open for Grammy award-winning R&B groups “The Delphonics” and “Michel’le”. My influences include notable musicians such as “James Fauntleroy”, “Brandy”, and “Frank Ocean”. As a musician, I strive to connect and engage with my audience, creating music that they can relate to on a personal level. My musical journey began when I was introduced to the creative process of music production by a close friend in high school. This led me to purchase home studio equipment and start recording my own music in 2016 at the age of 18. With dedication and hard work,I taught myself how to engineer vocals, with the help of YouTube tutorials.
My musical style is diverse, but I primarily create R&B music. However, My catalog is diverse, reflecting my versatility as an artist. I is always pushing the boundaries of my art, and my music is a testament to my creativity.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Whew! Social Media is a Relatively new concept in the Marketing world But we all know how important it can be to Get Ahead of Trends. My social media Journey started a while ago , when I downloaded something called instagram because i was just looking for filters to edit my facebook photos. Once the instagram wave started it was all about consistency. Finding a new way to present the same thing everyone else was presenting. And at that time it was Photos. I had started a theme on my instagram page of only posting in complete rows and honestly i stuck with that for about 6 years only having recently stopped. I say all of that to say, be uniquely yourself and consistent , and Growth will follow. Whether it be career , social Media or even Life.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Personally i think the most rewarding part of being a creative is the freedom it gives me to try new things and experiment. Theres no limits or bounds to creativity so just moving with that mindset is rewarding in itself. Nothing New comes From repeating the same things.
