Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Desired Admired. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Desired, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Taking risks can be terrifying, as it requires stepping out of our comfort zone and diving headfirst into the unknown. One of the biggest risks I have taken in my life was a significant career change from the field of science to the world of art.
I was fascinated by the medical field, particularly the specialized role of an anesthesiologist. With dreams of making a difference in people’s lives, I pursued and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the prestigious University of Colorado. It was a challenging journey that required countless hours of studying, dedication, and prayer. However, as I delved deeper into my studies, I gradually realized that my passion for science did not align with my actual enjoyment of the work.
After contemplating my true calling, I made the audacious decision to embark on a completely different path. I found solace in music, particularly in the vibrant and thrilling world of disc jockeying. Despite having no formal education or experience in the field, I knew in my heart that this was my new calling.
The transition was far from easy. I faced numerous obstacles as I embarked on my journey to become a DJ. Pushing my way into the competitive club scene was an uphill battle. Over the next five years, I poured my heart and soul into the art of DJing. I spent countless late nights honing my skills, experimenting with different genres, and creating mixes that resonated with my own unique style.
The true reward of this risk lies within the connections that I have made. I have realized that the most fulfilling aspect of being a DJ is the opportunity to connect with people on a deeply personal level. My ultimate goal has become to build rapport with my audience, and I have started witnessing familiar faces returning to multiple shows.
As I look back on my journey today, I am fully aware that the decision to step away from my initial career aspirations was the most impactful and rewarding decision that I have ever made. I have found immense joy and fulfillment in my role as a DJ, and the path that I have chosen has led me to a place where I feel truly alive and in alignment with my passion.
Life is filled with risks, and it is through these risks that we discover our true purpose and happiness. While it may have been daunting to leave behind years of education and expectations, I am grateful for the courage I mustered to follow my heart. My journey has not been the easiest, but the reward of pursuing my passions has been immeasurable.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
As a DJ, there are aspects of my journey that non-creatives may struggle to understand. One of the main things is the immense amount of time and effort that goes into crafting a DJ set or mix. Non-creatives might not realize the countless hours spent digging for new music, curating playlists, and practicing transitions and techniques. Continuously honing and fortifying your skills as a DJ demands immense dedication and unwavering passion.
Another aspect that might be hard for non-creatives to grasp is the ability to read and connect with an audience. Being a DJ goes beyond simply playing songs; it entails the vital task of crafting a one-of-a-kind and captivating experience for the audience. It requires a deep understanding of different musical genres, crowd dynamics, and the energy of the moment. Non-creatives might not understand the intuition and adaptability needed to seamlessly blend tracks and curate a set that resonates with the audience.
Furthermore, non-creatives might underestimate the pressure and responsibility that comes with performing live. Being in control of the music and setting the atmosphere for a crowd requires a certain level of confidence and stage presence. The importance lies in building rapport with the audience and gauging their responses in real-time. This can be both exhilarating and challenging, as it requires quick thinking and the ability to adjust the set on the fly.
Lastly, non-creatives might not fully grasp the emotional and personal investment that goes into DJing. Music is a powerful medium that can evoke strong emotions and memories. As a DJ, I strive to create an emotional journey through my sets, tapping into the collective consciousness and creating moments of joy, nostalgia, or even introspection. It revolves around utilizing music as a means of self-expression and connecting with people on a deeper level.
By understanding these aspects of a DJ’s journey as a creative, non-creatives can gain insight into the dedication, skill, and artistry that goes into DJing. They can hopefully appreciate the craft and the impact that music can have on individuals and communities. Ultimately, this understanding can foster a greater appreciation for the DJ’s role and the art of creating unforgettable musical experiences.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
When I first started building my social media presence as a DJ, I initially faced some challenges. As an introvert, putting myself out there and sharing my material felt daunting. However, I realized that in order to grow my career and reach new opportunities, it was crucial to overcome this fear and share my art with the world.
I believe in creating unique and attention-grabbing flyers for every event I play at. By designing my own flyers, I am able to represent my personal style and brand image consistently. I make sure to incorporate vibrant colors, bold typography, and striking visuals to capture people’s attention and stand apart from the crowd. This not only helps catch the interest of potential clients but also leaves a lasting impression of professionalism and creativity.
I post clips of my favorite parts of my sets from events on various platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter. These clips showcase my mixing abilities, unique track selections, and the high energy that I bring to my performances. By sharing short clips, it allows potential listeners and event organizers to quickly get a sense of my skill and style.
I immersed myself in the vibrant DJ community, actively engaging with fellow DJs, music enthusiasts, and event coordinators. Through commenting, providing support, and attending other creative’s local events, I effectively nurtured connections, cultivated meaningful relationships, and expanded my professional network within the industry.
Furthermore, I examined the level of engagement and feedback garnered from my posts, aiming to grasp which forms of content struck a chord with my followers. This approach allowed me to deliver valuable and captivating content that truly engaged my audience.
For those just starting to build their social media presence, my advice would be:
1. Be authentic: Showcase your unique style and personality. Let your passion shine through your content.
2. Consistency is key: Establish a regular posting schedule and stick to it. This helps build trust with your audience and keeps them engaged.
3. Engage with the community: Interact with others within your industry. Leave thoughtful comments, share feedback, and support others in the industry. This can lead to valuable connections and collaborations.
4. Engage with your audience: Respond to comments, messages, and feedback from your followers. Show genuine interest in connecting with your audience and building relationships. This can help foster loyal supporters and attract new listeners.
5. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there: Overcome any fears or hesitations and share your talent with the world. You never know who might benefit from your work and where it might lead you in your career.
6. Be active on multiple platforms: Posting your content on multiple platforms increases your chances of reaching a wider audience. Each platform has its own unique features and user base, so tailor your content to fit the preferences and algorithms of each platform.
7. Stay patient and kind to yourself: Building a social media presence takes time and effort. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t see immediate results. Stay consistent, continue refining your skills, and be kind to yourself throughout the process. Celebrate your achievements, no matter how small, and remember that growth comes with time.
