We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Erin Callahan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Erin thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
As a Doctor of Chiropractic, it is an honor to serve families to promote connection. Connection with oneself, connection with others, and connection to our environment. When I first moved back to Virginia following the grueling years of Chiropractic school and an internship turned first associateship within the Chiropractic field, I found a home at a busy and thriving practice. In school I always dreamed of owning and running my own practice to create a legacy for my family and honor the journey that Chiropractic gave us. I practiced as an Associate Doctor for a few years despite this dormant dream. I was very happy and had a blast while honing my skills and passion. My dream was awakened with the birth of my third and very unexpected baby. I had every intention of returning to my Associate Doctor position following maternity leave, but God had other plans that pushed me to go out on my own. Our daughter was born at home in January of 2023, severe PPA/PPD set in February of 2023, and I made the decision to leave my position later that month to stay with my baby. Soon after that, God placed the right circumstances in my lap to take the leap of faith into opening my own practice. Opening my own practice was my only choice I could make where I could have my children, including my newborn at the practice with me.
The only different steps I would have taken in this journey would be to start immediately after graduating!! It has been the absolute best experience putting faith in myself and my community, working while also prioritizing my family, and giving myself grace through the mistakes being made along the way.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am an expert prenatal, pediatric, and family chiropractor in the Hampton Roads area. I am the founder of Hope Chiropractic and I am passionate about connecting families with a network of professionals and resources to support patients in every aspect of family life. I am passionate about birth, autonomy, and giving families their voice back. I am a military child, military veteran, and military spouse with a great love for my country. I am a Virginia Beach native and Kellam High School graduate. I earned my undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University… GEAUX TIGERS! I went to Life University Chiropractic College in Marietta, GA to earn my Doctorate of Chiropractic. Throughout school and continuing education, I became a member of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) and I am Webster trained and certified. I have also trained in Epic Pediatrics to better serve both neurotypical and neurodiverse children and families. My husband and I met while stationed together in California and we have three beautiful children. Liam is the oldest and is active in Muay Thai and passionate about all things Marvel and film. Lana is our middle child who loves her garden club and gymnastics. Lucy is our newest baby and currently loves nursing and snuggling with her momma. As a family, you can find us hiking at First Landing State Park, at the beach, or camping! We love our community, so say hello whenever you see us around town!
Chiropractic is for everyone, at any age, and in any circumstance. At Hope Chiropractic, we are honored to serve you and your families at every stage of life. Hope grows here.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe in advocating for medical freedoms, body autonomy, and informed consent. I believe in building up a community, building up families, and building up connections. My patients know how deeply I care for them, their journey, and they know I want the absolute best lives for them. My patients also know that I will take my time with them because they deserve to be heard, they deserve quality care that is personalized, and they deserve to understand their bodies or their kids’ bodies. Building up a reputation within the community requires trust and trust can only be built with honesty and compassion.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Absolutely. 100%! Without a shadow of doubt, I would choose chiropractic every single time. Chiropractic is more than a profession to me. It is a passion. It is a lifestyle. It is a movement. Working closely with mothers, babies, and families is my biggest honor and joy. I cannot get enough of the everyday miracle stories of infertility turned pregnancy, disconnected children finding their voice, and women finding their power in uncomplicated labor and deliveries. The power that made the body heals the body as long as there is no miscommunication.
