We were lucky to catch up with Christina Morgan recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Christina thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
I had been introduced to a areola tattooing through some permanent make up forums that I was a part of. I did not think I was capable of doing such art, since I was only focused on doing really good eyebrows at the time, and I had a friend who had gone through breast cancer and breast reconstruction. I was totally willing to refer her out to those locally within the central Texas area that could help her out if she wanted to have her nipples tattooed; maybe to help her return to a sense of normalcy . Then I came across a student of my mentor, who produced such beautiful realistic Areola tattooing that it gave me goosebumps and still does to this day by the way. So I decided to make an investment of my time and money and away from my family for a weekend where I learned the art of 3-D Areola tattooing. I wasn’t aware of the amount of impact I will be having today, now two years later, after being able to work with many many men and women and non-binary people. I initially saw it as a risk because it was definitely something that was unknown, and I didn’t want to mess up. Also, I didn’t want to mess anybody’s reconstruction as well. Also, I was unaware of all the medical issues that those people who have gone through reconstruction and if it was something that I was able to help with or even feel comfortable seeing the scars. The scars don’t scare me they never have. I just wanna make my studio and their experience a positive one since they have been through so much physically and emotionally, so I have to say the risk reward was worth it.

Christina, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Christina Morgan is a licensed Aesthetician, certified permanent makeup artist, and Educator: training others in the art of 3D Areola tattooing. Since 2004, I have been an Aesthetician because I wanted to find solutions for my own skin care concerns, and what actually works. I worked for milk + honey spa in Austin for several years until I had my second child, and then I just needed to stay home. On the side, I would do eyelash extensions at peoples homes and did that for several years until I got into permanent make up to which i needed a permanent location. In 2017, I decided to learn about this new method, Microblading, that could potentially help people regain eyebrows they have lost either through waxing mishaps, medical issues or the over plucking of 1990s eyebrows. Opening up a permanent location where I wasn’t traveling everywhere was very helpful because I was able to offer more services and offer more times that I was available. I am no longer taking new lash clients, but I still stay busy with my current lash clients, as well as performing lash lifts, brow and lash tinting, brow waxing, facial waxing, various forms of Permanent eyebrows, and now entered into the world of Paramedical tattooing. Paramedical tattooing ranges from 3D areola tattoos, to areola darkening, to even phalloplasty tattooing. My main goal is for my clients to be comfortable in their own skin, while providing a nice, fun, nurturing safe environment. I am proud of my attention to detail, pursuit of excellence, listening ear and warm, quirky personality which makes me very sought out in this industry. I work closely with several local doctors‘ offices that ensure their patients are in great hands.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy I have found for my business has been word of mouth. Whether it’s from current clients or doctors offices, even social media shout outs have been really effective. Consultations are my jam, because then the client gets to see me and my studio and interaction, as well as give out valuable information for the service that would be best for them. Some just also see my google business page, read the mostly 5 star reviews and book right then.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I listen to a few podcasts that have really help me shift my thinking, especially mindset while being an entrepreneur. My favorites include: The Perfectionism Project, Manifestation Babe, Mind Your Business with James Wedmore, The Unrule/y Entrepreneur, and Jim Fortin Transform Your Life from the Inside Out. More times than not, I end up being a listening ear to my clients and maybe happenstance that I am able to provide, with permission, a wee bit of advice or perspective that I just heard from a podcast.
