Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Santyanna Webb. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Santyanna, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project I have worked on is my youth organization, “Millennials Without Mothers”. Millennials Without Mothers was created for kids who have lost their mothers. I lost my mother at the age of 14, and I know so well how challenging the struggle of living without your mother can be. Kids will be able to come to Millennials Without Mothers to turn their pain into power. It is a space of peace, healing and growth for us all.

Santyanna, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My thought process behind starting my own organization started at a very young age for me. At the age of 14, I lost my mother to gun violence. Life as I knew it changed in the blink of an eye. As a child, no matter how you lost your mother it is a very dark, lonely place. I know oh so well how hard the journey without your mother can be mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. I also know that there are so many kids & teenagers all around the world that is experiencing this same pain and suffering. So, I created Millennials Without Mothers. Millennials Without Mothers was created for the youth that have also their mother. My mission is to help the youth learn how to deal with the pain to eliminate the suffering. My goal and commitment is to do my best to turn their pain into power. My ultimate end goal is to open a youth center. “The Greatness Center for Millennials Without Mothers” The Greatness Center will be a place for the youth to come & know that they are not alone. The Greatness Center’s purpose is to empower & provide continuous support for motherless kids. The loss of my mother at a very young age was tragic and heartbreaking, but I knew that I had to use what I had been through to make a difference in this world. My difference is to give back to the youth. The youth is our future, and I am going to make sure that their future is filled with greatness.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I knew more about the non-profit world earlier in my creative journey. I have such a huge vision for the youth of my organization, but it takes a lot of resources to make it happen. I know that I can not make it happen alone so I wish I would’ve connected with non-profits to gain guidance on not only the grants and resources related to my cause, but also the people that could help me take my organization to the next level.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
After losing my mother to gun violence at the age of 14, I lost my grandmother 3 years later. Those two events are two of the most challenging, life changing events I have endured. So many days I wanted to give up, but I didn’t. I graduated high school on time, I am an amazing mother to my son, I am currently enrolled in college to get my associates degree in psychology, and I am working towards making Millennials Without Mothers one of the best youth organizations in the world. This journey is not easy, but I keep going because I know that my story is one of inspiration. I want to show others that you can turn your pain into power so I have to stay resilient.
