We were lucky to catch up with Jaquelyn LaVictoire recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jaquelyn, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Who is your hero and why? What lessons have you learned from them and how have they influenced your journey?
My dad, because he has always been a great example of how to balance a strong work ethic while being dedicated to your family, how to be resilient and how to have fun.
I grew up on a farm in central Wisconsin and I was my dad’s shadow while he worked. I watched everything he did and saw how he committed fully to his work during the day and when he was done, he was 100% committed to our family. He coached baseball, rode horses, helped with school and so much more.
Like all farmers, we came across our fair share of hardships but my dad was the first one to pick his head up and carry on. One memory that really sticks with me – when I was a child we had horses and we would ride every chance we had. One day, I fell off my horse, I brushed myself off and got right back on and asked, “Do you think Mom saw that?” We still joke about that to this day. That is the lesson in resilience he taught me. When you fall down, pick yourself up, brush it off, and get back on, odds are, no one even saw you fall.

Jaquelyn, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Effortless L.L.C. began with some bad news and a brave decision. On a Monday morning in August 2015, I woke up to find a locked laptop and a devastating email in my personal inbox; My employer, a virtual assistant company, was no longer in business — as of 72 hours prior. I refused to admit defeat and immediately began calling my clients, asking them to give me until Wednesday to get set to begin working on my own. True to my word, on Wednesday I began working. I had: a new laptop, eleven of my fourteen clients, and one goal in mind — to make this work for two years until my son started kindergarten. Fast forward 8 years and my son is about to enter sixth grade and my company has been profitable and growing for eight years.
I believe one of the secrets to my success over the years has been “personalized professionalism”. Even though I now have several clients, I make every effort to make them feel that they are my only client. I love getting to know each of them on a personal level and taking care of tasks so they can be free to do what matters most to them. I take great pride in my work and want to be an example to my daughter and show her that women can be executives, moms, wives, coaches… anything she dreams can be hers.
If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed, I encourage you to reach out. I would love to help!

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
In November 2015, just 3 months after starting my business, my husband was in a terrible car accident while at work. He suffered a traumatic brain injury, which resulted in permanent short-term memory loss, as well as total loss of all memories 1.5 years prior to the accident and 1.5 years post-accident. It was at that moment that Effortless became more. It could no longer be a part-time venture, I had to make it work completely. I could have quit, claiming it was too difficult, but instead, I continued to press on building it into a business that supports everyone in my home.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Almost all of my clients have come from referrals. I love hearing about one of my clients telling a friend, colleague, family member, co-worker, etc. about how much time they have and how organized their life has become since working with me. It is such a glowing endorsement and I find the best clients come to me this way.
