We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chandi Rae a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Chandi thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
I remember I had just furnished my apartment and I heard God say “It’s time” “Time for you to move out of state” Now I had been wanting to move for a year and it never worked out. It was at this point where I was finally comfortable staying in Ohio that God decided I gotta go. I was like no way I just got myself set up and everything was going great besides the fact I was going through a divorce, I was feeling empowered and ok with Ohio. So I immediately started to complain like no God this isn’t fair! I have a great clientele in the salon and my place is newly furnished I’m good! I accepted the word to move and started pricing my move for furniture and I heard God say give everything away. Now God had lost his mind lol!! I was not happy. I started hearing this is what you prayed for. I wanted elevation and change but I wanted to hold on to what I had. God reassured me is get it all back but I had to trust him for the spiritual shift and stop concerning myself with the superficial things that were holding me up. I learned that sometimes God will take everything familiar to get us to a higher level of faith. Once I saw his plan I was no longer angry but I surrendered to his will for my life. I packed my car and headed to Texas. When I arrived it all started to make sense.
Chandi , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I like to call myself a serial entrepreneur. I have been a managing cosmetologist and image consultant for over 20 years. I am a licensed professional master life coach specializing in confidence building through identity healing., an author, international speaker, and retreat host. Overall I help individuals self discover their authentic selves by helping them identify, define and uproot limiting beliefs that stem from past childhood trauma. Healing and wholeness is the ultimate goal. I think my ability to freely share my life experiences that are embarrassing to most set me apart. I believe transparency is the key to healing yourself and others. I don’t like presenting my life as amazing on social media when I know I have moments that normal people have. I don’t do fake. because I am truly free. I help individuals shift to this lifestyle by healing their identity. Subconsciously we all carry beliefs that family members or people in our communities planted in us that shaped who we are today. A lot of us are not our authentic selves because we need to go back and reprogram those subconscious beliefs we don’t believe to be true today. I do this on several platforms. I host an annual conference called Tell Your Story ( from pain to purpose) Vanish Board workshop which is the first step you take before you create a vision board and Vanish board healing retreats amongst other events.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I know for sure that my vulnerability helped to build my reputation. I freely speak what most feel but are afraid to admit or say. I learned that vulnerability was a gift and it represented strength when used with wisdom. I don’t have time to hide my true feelings. I will not hold back or pretend I’m not hurt, sad, disappointed or act like I know it all I can be open and share my heart and that allows me to show up as my authentic self time and time again.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
I would choose my profession over and over again because it’s taught me a lot and built my character. Being a stylist puts you under a microscope, you automatically open yourself up to judgment and people’s opinions. You have to be built for this! I’ve learned how to manage my emotions because people will sit in your chair with all kinds of spirits and problems and you can’t just say what you want because you could lose business. I learned how to keep my emotions in check. I didn’t always handle things professionally, in the beginning, I was rough around the edges I would say whatever came up but I got it now!
