We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jennie Neu-Sipkay a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Jennie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you tell us a bit about who your hero is and the influence they’ve had on you?

My father is the most caring, strongest & thoughtful person I’ve ever met. He taught me how to be a successful business owner leading by example. As a small child, I watched and went to work with my dad as he juggled our chaotic home life with keeping us safe & having money coming in for the necessities. We were never without. He would get up every morning, super early, to take care of business throughout my whole young life, on his own and made a great living. I salute my father for the greatness that he is.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Neu Kombucha is our brand and Neu (new) is my maiden name, a bit of play on words. I started making kombucha while working at a cafe roughly 15 years ago. Watching my business grow in 8+ years has been a dream. Starting with just prebottled kombucha which has bloomed into kegging and partnering with the best cafes and restaurants in the metro Detroit area. Throughout the ups and downs I can honestly say I love my job.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

Social media (instagram) is not my favorite but it is great for business. It’s a free platform for us to advertise & build our customer base. We take the personal touch avenue. We respond to everyone in a timely manner & interact with our audience. We try to keep it as real as possible without getting too personal. Building our instagram following by word of mouth with real people & not going for the robot followers to make our numbers higher is what we do. We try to keep it fresh and interesting.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?

Keeping everything in stock is something we strive for as a reliable business. We recently were told that our bottles were out of stock. I worked day and night to have a back up plan, always have a back up plan. We worked hard with this company to get our bottles back and they ensured us, after we persisted, that this will not happen again. That was a close one.
