We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Recker Eans. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Recker below.
Recker, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaning full project is the one I’m working on now. I decided a year ago that I wanted to put out my own music as an Independent artist. I had just turned twelve. So after playing a show with Jason Butler from Fever333 and The Dropout Kings, I was just so pumped up and was full of so many ideas that I went straight into the studio the next day with my Producer Shea Moore who is more like a brother to me. We killed it, the ideas and music were just flowing! So from there I sent out several songs to different artists. Some never responded, some responded with encouragement but were to busy and then others just jumped right in!! So the dream of collaborating with other artists and putting out my own music was born!
Recker, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
So about myself, I started playing drums at 5 which led to School of Rock where I take drum, guitar and bass lessons. I formed a band when I was 7 called The Twits, that was really fun and we played a ton of really cool festivals( Back to the Beach, Punk Rock Bowling, Bonanza Campout) and opened for some amazing artists( Authority Zero, Seether, Marc Rebillet) it was so much fun. The band dissolved because our singer wanted to do her own thing, respect! I landed a role as cohost and musician for a show called The Kids Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. We shot in New York and it was such an incredible experience! Jimmy is such a cool fun person, very kind. I created a live drum DJ set that I ended up traveling a bit with. It’s very high energy with sing along hits where I even add in some guitar playing. That turned into writing and co-producing my own music featuring other artists on vocals. I’m now writing my own song which I will be singing on. With all of that I am really just a regular kid that loves to hang with friends, golf, skateboard, play basketball oh and I speak Mandarin Chinese lol! Been in an immersion program since kindergarten.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal or mission started with wanting to be the first young artist to write/produce/record and play with other artists, which would hopefully inspire others to not only play others music but to create your own. Working with other artist teaches you so much! It’s such a creative journey that leads to so many cool things. But my goals are always changing. I want to be apart of everything that music has to offer.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Honestly my resilience comes from believing in myself and being proud of what I am creating. Believe me it’s not so easy being a very young musician/producer and reaching out to other artists. Some artist look at my age and the fact that I’m just an independent artist with no one backing me except my parents and hard work. You have to be confident in what you are doing and not take anything personal.
