We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Giselle. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Giselle below.
Alright, Giselle thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Since I was a child, I knew I wanted to be a singer, songwriter and musician. It has always been my biggest dream and goal! Of course as a child you dream of becoming this huge famous star and I’m not there…YET! But I have learned throughout the years that the steps along the way are what make this all worth it. All the achivements you make are worth it and meaningful to your path. I have made songs that have touched so many people and have related to more people than I thought was even possible! I have performed in venues that I once thought I could never get in to. The creative/artistic professional path may be a tough one at times, but overall it is truly rewarding.
Giselle, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Giselle and I am a now 28 (as of August 4th) year old singer, songwriter and musician here in Los Angeles. I have been singing since I was very young. Humming along to songs before I could even speak… and performing since I was 4. I play piano, guitar. uke, violin and drums. I have been writing songs since the age of 8. Music has been my life and such an important part of my life for all these years. I got into this industry because I have always had a love for creating music to connect to others, to express how I feel, to provide moments of joy, solitude and even at times moments of sadness if a song calls for it. I wanted to pursue my musical dreams because I knew I had a gift of not only expressing my own emotions but relating to others. The power of music is truly amazing to me.
As a singer, songwriter and musician, I do provide services along with my own creative works that I release. I’ve been a wedding singer/musician many times as well as the singing pianist who has gotten to connect with wonderful elderly people in retirment homes! I also help other upcoming artists with songwriting as well as lend my voice to backgrounds for those who need it!
What am I most proud of? That’s a great question! Thank you for asking. I am most proud of my works I have shared as well as my perseverance in this industry. It can be hard at times and I have dealt with my own fair share of snakes in the industry, but overall I have met other amazing likeminded people! I am proud of the places I have performed and the connections I have made with audiences at shows and even online! I want potential clients, followers and fans to know these four things about me: Music is my life, I want nothing more than to leave a beautiful mark on this world, My music always comes from the heart and last but not least, I hope my music can speak to your soul!
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
As a creative, I have had many people who are not on the same path as me, ask me “Why would you choose this path? Why be in the hardest industry?” I don’t expect people to always understand. That’s okay! I am sure many people prefer to live a life of certainty that is constructed in a way that they feel they will “never fail,” but I personally do not. I love my life. I love music and it has been and always will be a part of me. For me, living this life is my truth. This is my truest form. I can’t pretend to be someone I am not. I can’t give up my passion to live a life of certainty. At one point, I thought I could. I went to college, I got my degree and guess what? I haven’t used it once! You don’t need a backup plan when you’re living your truest life. Have there been times it’s been hard? Yes. I won’t sit here and say there hasn’t. There was a time in my life I was balancing 4 jobs and trying to provide for my pets, myself and my musical journey. It was hard and looking back, I am not so sure how I pushed myself that much! Espcailly as a lupus warrior!
I say all that to say, I am not encouraging people to brun themselves out. Never do that. I am a huge advocate in self-care. It’s okay to rest. But I think, when it comes to your dream(s), it is NEVER okay to give up. I would rather live my life knowing I tried my best to reach my dreams than to die knowing I never tried. I have made achivements that I once thought was not possible and I know I will keep making them! You have to believe in yourself.
Live your life and live your truth, even if others don’t understand it.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
A story that illustrates my resilence… well, that would be a very long story but I can simplifiy it. I once had a manger and a producer who turned on me. The manager stole money, took away a great record deal opportunity from me and literally disappeared off the face of the Earth. The producer stole almost all of my songs. This happened to me my first 2 years living in LA. I was only 21. A fresh face out in the industry pool here and I sadly met the belly of the beast pretty fast in my career out here. I was someone who made great progress where I came from, but I wanted to expand my career and my opportunities. I will never understand why two grown men did this to me, but I have come to terms with it. At first, I wanted to give up. I wanted to stop because my dream felt like it was taken away. Until one day I got a call to perform my first medium sized show in LA. From there, I kept pushing. I then performed at even better venues including the iHeart Radio stage! Beyond those performances, I got to connect with so many amazing artists, photographers and videographers. I have gotten to create some of the best music videos of my career because of that! I have released more music and music that has reached people around the world! I share this to say, if I had given up, I would have NEVER had these opportunities. Even if one door closes, a million others will open. Be resilient, believe in yourself and never give up.
