We recently connected with Ashley Lauber and have shared our conversation below.
Ashley, appreciate you joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I can remember being really young and my mom gifting me grandpa’s old digital camera. I would take pictures as often as possible, of just about anything. Senior year of high school I finally got into photography class and I was ecstatic. I put my whole heart into that class. My school was incredible because if you were in photography class, you were allowed to “check out” a DSLR camera over the weekend! I learned photography from experience mostly. I would take a school camera to a concert almost every single weekend. That’s when I discovered my passion for concert photography. Those weekends were some of the best times of my life.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Ashley and my passion is photography. My favorite thing to shoot is live concerts. My photography instagram is @AshleyLauberPhotography. Feel free to explore my page! Photography is very special to me because it’s a way to capture important moments forever. Additionally, nostalgia is something we all love and crave. I believe that pictures are the best way to feel nostalgic!
I was drawn to creativity at a young age. My mom gifted me my first digital camera (grandpa’s old one) around age 11 or 12. I quickly became obsessed with taking pictures of everything around me. Photography helped me view the world around me differently. My surroundings went from dull and boring to colorful, exciting, and new.
I don’t currently have a photography business. I prefer it that way! Friends and acquaintances used to hire me for photography shoots, but that was years ago. I have learned that I enjoy my craft much more when I capture what I desire to capture. Photography is my art, not my job. I’m extremely proud of myself for realizing that’s what best for my creative process!
The main thing I’d like to achieve with my photography is bringing joy to others and myself.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Passion is what’s driving my creative journey. Creating unique photography is what makes me the most happy! Specifically shooting concerts since my other passion is music. I started shooting live concerts back in high school 9+ years ago. My happy place has always been concerts, but when I combine that with shooting, my heart is completely full! Nature photography can be wonderful as well. It brings me joy in a different, more peaceful way. As long as my photography continues to make me happy, I will keep shooting!
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Adobe Photoshop & Adobe Lightroom are my best friends! These tools are extremely important to creating well-edited photographs. I love how user-friendly these resources are and that they’re affordable for the average beginner photographer. There’s also plenty of tutorials on YouTube that can quickly teach you how to use these! Check them out!
