We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Stephanie Olivo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Stephanie , thanks for joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
I was a business owner with my late husband for 10 years and when he passed- I closed that business and realized I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life as a career/business.
I decided to get my Real Estate license, but something was missing- I felt I couldn’t express my true creativity with real estate because I was so involved with medical- felt I still needed that to be in that world.
I started building content for a medical company and realized that I can do this for myself and for my business in real estate.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Stephanie Olivo is an American entrepreneur, and a first-generation Tampa, FL native. Her love for the city shows through her career as a realtor since 2018. Before her real estate venture, she owned a medical device distribution company with her late husband. In 2017, after the suicide of her husband and the overdose of her stepson she closed the doors to the 20-year-old company. Olivo-Schulte decided to take these tragedies and begin a blog and now a podcast, “Discontinued, Now What?!”, where she discusses the path she has taken after such turmoil. Her chapter in the newest installation from Inspired Hearts Publishing, The Voyage & The Return: The Path to Self-Discovery, is a small peek into the day her late husband took his life.
Unhappy with traditional therapy, she was introduced to different healing methods, such as Reiki and meditation. These methods have helped her open her heart and mind to be able to aid women on their path after the suicide of a spouse. She wants to use her experiences dealing with depression, addiction, and suicide from an outsider’s perspective within a family unit.
Have you ever had to pivot?
When my husband passed away, I was so integrated into his business that when I closed it- I said to myself… what the hell am i going to do now.
I decided to get my real estate license because being an employee to someone else was something that I did try and failed greatly as unable to separate being the boss and not.
Starting in real estate I only did a part-time and I did work for a medical company for the first 3 1/2 years the last two years I was feeling the pressure and also the anxiety of being on my own and that’s when I decided to do this full-time. Contact creation also help me during the lows of real estate business.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I started my Instagram page back in 2012 it was new I didn’t know what the heck to do with it I just posted a pictures I think of some vera wing shoes and I thought that was the coolest and then I slowly started getting into posting different images and stuff of my travels. Followers came naturally and I’ve never paid for them and as of this year because of the reels and my Contant I’m able to now monetize my social media account which is something very new for me. I love that I am able to do this because this allows me passive income semi passive and also helps me with allowing me to build and hone in on my creativity
