We recently connected with Dani Adams-Barry and have shared our conversation below.

Dani, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?

Oh this one is a doozy. I think its something we may not reflect upon until we are much older, however I feel its an important piece of our puzzle. How do we impact this world? If there is anything I can give back and be my legacy it would to be to give others the gift of a moment. Time is ever precious. More so than ever. It’s taking a piece of history and essentially capturing it forever. That is how I view my legacy. To be that one to capture all those precious moments. The in between moments and the surprises. I am so thankful to have a job that I can pour my soul into and give to others in a way that is truly special, all the moments we want to hold onto forever.

Dani, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

You’re going to miss this one day… I say to myself as I’m shot in the butt with a nerf bullet while unclogging the toilet. Yes, parent life is bloody IN-SANE! But its ever so beautiful and I, 100% get it. I am a Newborn Photographer, a Milestone Photographer, a FAMILY Photographer and I want you to know that I know that you’re amazing! There is no perfect way, there is no perfect day. Wild things happen and Im totally on board. I like to tell my clients to embrace the chaos. Family life can be loud, messy and utterly beautiful. I mean, we created little humans, thats an absolute phenomenon in itself and now we are watching them blossom into their own unique personalities.
Lets be honest, do we not all call our parents one day and say, “Ok, I get it now…” Parent life is like the Wild Wild West and you never know what you’re gonna get.
And thats the ways I like it. Let them be free!
But to the point, I want my clients to feel at ease. I make sure I have everything we need so they don’t have to. I want every parent to come to me and just be able to breathe. I am specialized in Newborn Photography and 98% are all IN-HOME. Because I want you parents to be stress free. I literally bring everything we need, backdrops, props, you name it. Just go make a baby ok!?
This is for every session though, Maternity, Milestones, Families, I really want you to feel relaxed. Leave all the smiles and hoopla to me. I have you covered.

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.

How I came to be is quite the unfolding of a fairytale. Well to me. I started out in school to be an Obstetric Nurse. I have always loved babies and wanted to work with them. Maybe one day be a Pediatrician! I believe my mom has a book with my “What do you want to be when you grow up?” question answered with just that, Pediatrician. In school, I picked up photography as an extra curricular. I really enjoyed learning how to manipulate light and take full advantage of my camera. Being that for a time I worked for a department that reviewed photoshop editing, I had an eye for small details in an image and found myself extremely meticulous in my new photography hobby.
Then it started to blossom.
I found myself really enthralled in it. I loved how I could capture a piece of time. I captured my family, friends, nature, water droplets, you get it. Suddenly, people asked if they could hire me. I never in my dreams ever imagined I could be a successful photographer. Then one day, it came to my attention that I should break away from the corporate world and be my own boss. Scariest day of my life.
The uncertainty is the biggest hurdle. However, I had an amazing group of people supporting me, encouraging me and here I am. A successful female business owner!

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?

This is such a huge question regarding all businesses, however my answer would be the same across the board. Word of mouth is STRONG. If you give to your clients what you would like in return you would be shocked at how that positive energy comes full circle. Seriously, get out there and go the extra mile. Just be real and helpful. No one wants a fake salesman in front of them. They want honesty and to feel valued.
I already consider all my clients as friends from the start. They are another family I cannot wait to get to know! Being an extrovert, I really do feel such an honor to be apart of their lives. Watching their kids grow and families expand. It’s truly magical.
