We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sheena Balentine a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sheena, thanks for joining us today. The first dollar you earn in a new endeavor is always special. We’d love to hear about how you got your first client that wasn’t a friend or family.
We received our first regular client from Costco, There was a lady that needed help loading her car at the Costco nearby my mom’s house. My brother and myself helped the lady get her items in the car and we gave her a flyer. She has been ordering her favorite cake for her special events every since then, She likes to order a pound cake with lemon glaze but light on the icing.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We are a family own business. We decided to share our gifts with the community because of Jan. She has been baking since she was nine years old. It has become a family traditional to cook from scratch. Within our community we give back. Once a month the police department as well as the local fire department receive a dessert for all the work they do protecting the community that we live in. The desserts that we make our unique because we give you something exciting for your taste buds every time. We are know for our famous peach cobbler cheesecake. If heaven makes cheesecake this is the one for you to have. Its that grandma’s flaky crust with peaches and spices that remind you of peach cobbler then the center is a creamy cheesecake with our homemade graham cracker crust.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The goal that we are focused on is spreading good quality made desserts to everyone. The same freshness that you receive locally is what we are going to provide nationwide. We are working to get our product is stores as well as it being delivered to your front door.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Social media definitely helps with our reputation. The main way we get our reputation is by word of mouth. We provide good customer service as well as a good product. In this economy you have to always provide good service to your customers. If you don’t that is the quickest way that you will be out of business. It takes one good review to get you in front of a bigger audience and one bad review to make you be cancelled.
