We’ve always tried to ask the questions that matter but that are too awkward for people to ask their friends, family and coworkers without seeming dramatic. One of those questions is about mission and purpose – when’s the last time you asked a friend what their mission was? Too often we don’t talk about our own missions and don’t ask those close to us about theirs with the result being that our missions remain secret. Are you just a doctor or are you a doctor who wants to be there for patients in the way you wished your father’s doctor had been? People have incredible and meaningful missions, and we hope our conversations asking folks about their mission can inspire more such conversations in your life.

At the very core of our mission is the pursuit of rendering luxury an attainable dream. Our main goal is to make luxury something that everyone can aspire to. This idea guides everything we do, from the start of our projects; acquisition to planning; to full execution. Growing up as the oldest daughter in the family, I learned how to make the most out of limited resources which strongly influenced my path. It’s a part of my personal and professional story which has taught me that Luxury doesn’t have to be expensive. Having a lovely home, with a modern design and state-of-the-art amenities, doesn’t necessarily have to mean breaking the bank. We design with luxury and affordability in mind. Read more>>

I spend a decade working in television news; first behind the cameras as a production assistance and then eventually in front of the camera reporting the day’s (and night’s) news for local television. It taught me everything I know about connecting with people, finding stories and sharing them with others. But there was something missing. I reported the news and moved on to the next story assignment and overtime covered a lot of sensational stories. Read more>>

Our mission is to create luxury products that are an attainable price point for the everyday consumer. Luxury doesn’t have to come with a price tag. One night, I was burning a VERY expensive candle from a department store we (will leave unnamed) and it started pouring black smoke up the tile in my bathroom. I thought to myself, this isn’t right, I paid a lot of money to have this candle. I have always been passionate about candles so I thought, hey I don’t really know of many candles that burn clean..I should make some. Read more>>

In response to a lack of good jobs in Greater Cincinnati and across the country, Co-op Cincy’s founders came together with an idea: to create an economy that works for all. This idea came from studying equitable economies around the world, including the Basque region of Spain, where Mondragon has created the world’s largest and most advanced association of cooperatives. Co-op Cincy’s founders visited Spain in 2012 and witnessed firsthand the positive impact that the cooperative business model has had on the workers and the local economy. Worker-owned cooperatives not only rescued the Basque region from severe instability and inequality, they also made it flourish. When we returned to the US, we were inspired to build that model here. Our mission at Prickly Pear Sports is to give active women – and women who long to be active again – a way to run (jump, laugh, lift, sneeze) with confidence. without distraction, and without fear of embarrassing bladder leaks caused by SUI. When I began my entrepreneurial journey, my primary interest was to address a problem that up to 50% of women deal with – we accidentally pee when we run (or sneeze, laugh, or jump – you name it.) This is called stress urinary incontinence, or SUI, and typically shows up during pregnancy, postpartum, or after menopause. Read more>>

I was trained in an interior design firm that was all about excess, designed obsolescence, and big budgets, where designers would change things out as quickly as possible to turn a profit. When it was time for me to move on and begin my own design journey, I started at the polar opposite of that mindset. Hazel Tree was sprouted from a passion for local sourcing. I wanted to honor our environment and our local community. We find that custom projects are almost always the best option for meeting these standards. This takes more time and is often more painstaking because it’s easy to order out of a catalog, but this way we avoid the use of products that are often shipped from overseas and could contain harmful chemicals or release chemical compounds during off-gassing. Our mission at SALTY is to create opportunities for our guests to take in the beauty of our beaches and the Gulf of Mexico while making memories sharing food, beverages, and experiences with those they love the most. From the start, my mission has been to build a community for people that loves and appreciates Chinese culture and aesthetics. Crafting her own products for hair and skin, and growing herbs like mint and aloe, she instilled in us skills that transcended store-bought beauty. During the fall of 2022 my husband and I felt God was leading us in a different direction in life. Both of us in our early 50’s , with our adult children married and doing well in life, we felt it was time to do something more meaningful and help a community of people. So, after much prayer and consideration, we felt our next mission in life was to invest our time and money into a small town that needed help with revitalization. A town that needed something everyone would want but didn’t have. After searching and searching, we landed in a small town in SW Virginia, called Pennington Gap, VA. When I was 7 years old it snowed in Austin. It wasn’t my first-time seeing snow, but it was my first time experiencing winter and cold with my central Texas neighbors, which was rare. It was also the first time I ever gave something of my own away to someone in need. You see, I had 2 coats, and my neighbor didn’t have one. It just made sense that I should share, and so without hesitating, I walked across the street and gave her the brand-new coat that my grandmother had just purchased for me. I didn’t know the cost of the coat or even consider in my 7-year-old mind how my grandmother might feel or the conversation my mom would need to have to explain it all, but I do remember one thing… my mother’s smile. Concerts were my go-to happy place. An escape from the real world, even if just for a little while. Being in any creative industry is definitely not for the weak or faint hearted. There are constant conversations, opinions, etc, about the work you create, and that can be challenging to navigate. However, the beauty of being able to dive full force into your artistry, challenge yourself through the process, and uncover aspects of your talents that you didn’t even know existed, is the real definition of growth and that’s what I strive to do as I continue in my career. One of my all time favorite songs is Love Yourz by J.Cole and in his lyrics he quoted, “There’s beauty in the struggle and ugliness in the success” which it’s very true but people need to see and hear that! Sharing my story, the personal ups and downs, and life lessons that I’ve learned on this journey of trying to lock in to accomplish my dreams, could really help the next person. Read more>>

It’s a profoundly meaningful mission to me, as I reflect on how having access to such a mission during my childhood could have significantly enhanced my personal success. The presence of strong role models equipped with essential skills for working with underserved youth would have been transformative. By offering children a comprehensive educational approach that addresses their needs, we can foster the development of crucial behavioral and social skills. My mission is bring people together with music. It might sound corny, but I love the idea that music can exude a sound that brings people from all walks of life together. Music is a universal language, and my goal is through the music I play I can help different types of people communicate, feel, and see each other. The story behind my mission, is that growing up, I was always the type of kid that didn’t quite ever fully fit it. I was pretty much always the only black girl in all of my schooling growing up, and later on realizing that I was queer, I have always in a way been different from the norm. However I think with that experience, I have in way been exposed to different groups of people. To me, it is so fascinating to see differences in and similarities of music these different groups enjoy. Sometimes its more similarities there you would realize. Read more>>
