We were lucky to catch up with Director ZANE recently and have shared our conversation below.
Director, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Quality control is a challenge almost every entrepreneur has had to focus on when growing – any advice, stories or insight around how to best ensure quality is maintained as your business scales?
In the industry I’m in, there will always be room for improvement, and my team and I are constantly exploring different ways to produce bigger and better videos.
When it comes to working with big brands and smaller companies, there’s a huge difference in the process of working with each. Big brands have their own target markets, and they come in with a lot of market data. Their primary focus is quality. Smaller companies rely more on what seems to be working within their industry, and they care more about quantity than quality. Regardless, my team and I aim to still provide quality work.
Working with big brands has increased my company’s credibility and reputation. Because big brands prefer to work with established businesses, this has helped bring in more big brands for Zane Productions. When big brands visit my website, they are impressed by the portfolio and quality. Sequentially, they feel confident trusting me and my team to handle their projects well.
We keep proving that we are up for the challenge. We can shut down whole streets and film helicopters racing cars if our clients want. But no matter what, we never compromise quality.
Director, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a commercial and music video producer and director and the founder of Zane Productions. We specialize in handling everything from pre-production and filming to post-production. My team and I work very hard to bring our clients’ visions to life. I have delivered more than 350 videos to date, and have collaborated with major brands such as Marvel, Adidas, UFC, Virgin, and many others. I’ve also worked with living legends such as The Isley Brothers and Kool & The Gang. I attributes the growth of my business both to persistence and hard work. I mainly grew my business by focusing on my online presence, and that’s how brands, companies and artists find me. Many brands and companies have turned to my company as a result of our good online reputation.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I’ve had the privilege of working on multiple video projects for The Isley Brothers. Our first two projects where pre-recorded performance for The Morning Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live, drawing in more than 2 million live viewers for each show. Our success with The Isley Brothers continued a year later when they requested us to shoot a single for their album, “The Plug.” While on set filming, 2 Chainz decided to stop by. What we initially thought was a “hello” from 2 Chainz turned into an experience of a lifetime.
The next thing you know, he was writing and recording a verse. We extended the shoot day in order to squeeze in an additional scene for 2 Chainz’s verse. Once the music video was released, it went viral, landing almost 10 million hits on YouTube to date.
Over the years I’ve learned to handle surprises like this with ease. When I firsts started, I wasn’t able to quickly accommodate such a last-minute change. But now I’ve built enough resilience and experience to handle anything that comes our way on set. I also wouldn’t be able to do all this without the amazing team that I’ve built over the years. Without them, my company wouldn’t be where it’s at now.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My passion and commitment to creating high-quality and effective videos is what motivates me to keep doing this. I love seeing my clients hitting their sales goals or going viral. That brings my heart a lot of joy and makes all the hard work worth it. I take on every project with utmost care and love. Also, over the years, I’ve built incredible relationships with both my clients and my team. To me, we’re all like family!
