We recently connected with Landis Pearce and have shared our conversation below.
Landis, appreciate you joining us today. Alright, so one thing we think people don’t talk about nearly enough is investments – either time or money. What’s one of the best or worst investments you’ve made and what did you learned from the experience?
In the studio world, the room is everything. I cannot stress how important the actual studio space is. From the vibe, to the actual acoustics, it matters so much. I always did self treatment. Never really knew or understood completely how much it mattered for the quality of the record. Having the best gear in the world just does not matter if your room sucks. Investing in my acoustic redesign of the studio was worth more than any piece of gear I’ve ever bought.
Landis, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Landis Pearce. I own and operate Unify Sound Lab in Charlotte NC. We are a private studio specializing in the highest sonic quality as well as the highest customer service. We do everything from recording and mixing records, to sound design, to ADR, and commercial work. We are currently building a new 3,500 sq foot space. Designed by David Rochester, we are building a haven for the creative crowd. Housing an Atmos Suite, 2 control rooms, 2 isos, a 500sq foot live room, as well as a full kitchen and creative lounge. The most important thing to me is the client and the client experience. That’s what we are building on here at Unify.

How’d you meet your business partner?
So, my business partner is an old friend of mine. We met playing music actually. He is a cinematographer and film director. While our industries do overlap, its more about our brand. What we stand for and how we stand for it is the most important part of how we operate and why we decided to enter into business together.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Doing good work and being authentic. The world is so full of personalities and fake fronts due to the importance of social media and content. What matters to me is good music and the experience of creating it. I never invested into social media or any kind of marketing in that way. I always just did my best to treat the client like my close friend and help bring their music to life and it has served me well.
