We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Marisa Ikpoh a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Marisa thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I would love to say that I came up with the concept of Marisa Moments, but the truth is, the notion found me. I began this journey under the impression that I would share random yet comedic moments in my life as a means of humor and entertainment. Little did I know that in a short time period, I would not only be awakened to the knowledge that I have gifts, but I would be sharing them to help others.
The road from origination to now has been quite curvy, riddled with detours and sights that I did not want to see. From having to face many demons of my past, to making sacrifices I could have never foresaw, to expanding my horizons and accepting abundance in its many forms… it’s been a rollercoaster that I’m glad I decided to ride.
Not only have I been working on healing myself from trauma, toxicity, self sabotage, and suppression, but my work, in conjunction with my abilities to see beyond the veil, have allowed me to help others too. Now, I create courses that help you tap into, recognize, and understand your own gifts. I share true experiences to serve as a reflection of possibilities and encouragement to others. And I hold people divinely accountable to the promises that they make to themselves.
In all, I: Trigger • Awaken • Connect you to the divinity that you’ve been programmed to forget or dismiss.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I originally got into the divinity/spirituality realm after I unwittingly gave a friend a mediumship reading. I had never done such a thing, and I truly had no reason to know the information I did. Yet, she not only validated my statements, but she encouraged me to pursue it further. She told me how I had the potential to help others who may be in need of guidance or closure. So I did!
Fast forward to current time, and you’ll find me reconnecting people to the inherent gifts. I remind others that you don’t have to fit into a mold to acknowledge and grow your divinity. I work to remove self- doubt, judgment, and programming that serves as a means of intuitive suppression.
Admittedly, I do reap many benefits from helping you connect to your true self. I am privileged with seeing the spark that ignites in your eye when you make an intuitive connection. I am rewarded every time someone decides to shift the trajectory of generational curses by working on their healing. I am elated when I find out that my work has been a single seed in the garden of their prosperity, health, independence, and happiness.
How do I do this? Great question! Between my course, “Conversating with the Universe”, Daily Divinity Reminders, channeled messages, live clarity calls, readings and more, I’m quietly becoming a divine hub for those that are ready, willing, and able to evoke change.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Oh my goodness do I have stories!
I suppose one that is a beautiful analogy to how I live through business and otherwise would be my twins birth story. Not to worry, I’ll spare you the gore (that will be in the next interview).
In 2018 I gave birth naturally to twin girls. From the start to finish of the pregnancy, it was a wild ride. However, I want to focus on the birth.
Immediately after they were delivered, I noticed that I was becoming extremely tired, cold and numb. This was when I was told I would require an emergency hysterectomy to try to stave off hemorrhage. Around this time I had already lost four liters of blood. As you can imagine, the OR [operating room] flooded with doctors. It became pure chaos and a rush against the clock to keep me alive. All the while, I was overwhelmed with peace and love… and acceptance.
Funny enough, I can recall complaining the entire time. Why did I need a mask? They were smothering me! (It was oxygen.) Why did my arm burn? (They were rushing blood back into me.)
I woke up elated to be alive! About 32 staples, complete body swelling, and a host of pain later… I was declared a fighter and remarkable recovery patient. I willed myself through recovery, while carrying for newborns. In all I lost 8 liters of blood, had two transfusions and spent 13 days hospitalized.
It may be a shocking story to some, but to me it’s an example of my resiliency and will to not only survive but to thrive. And that’s what I aim to show and instill in those that choose to walk with me.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
There are so many things that I had to unlearn and am still in the process of unlearning. One in particular is negative self-talk.
From an early age, negativity has been a great part of my “motivation.” I was often reminded of how I was doing things wrong, name called, and bullied as a child. No, I don’t hold a grudge. I understand that we are all working from our wounds and doing the best we can with what we have.
Overall, I had to catch myself every time I wanted to call myself out of my name. I had to stop in my tracks each time I was tempted to belittle my efforts. I had to reframe when I began to use humor as a means of highlighting my perceived flaws. I reminded myself that these notions were not mine, and they didn’t even represent my truth. Honestly, it’s an ongoing struggle, but I’ve come a long way.
This step in itself has shifted so many things in my life. It’s a testament to the positive outcome that healing can bring, not only for myself, but for generations hereafter.
