We recently connected with Tamara Davie and have shared our conversation below.
Tamara, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
I brainstormed for days on a name for my child care and couldn’t come up with anything cute or catchy. One day I was working with one of my students and they said, “Ta-da, look what I did”. I sat down later that day and rearranged the letters of my name for a bit and realized that the first two letters of my first name, and the first two letters of my last name spelled “ta-da”. I yelled, “That’s it!” I quickly called my husband into the room and called my mother to tell them the name and they loved it. Even to this day, people always complement the name “TaDa Childcare” which brings a huge smile to my face every time!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I originally went to Wayne State University for Music Education and in my Junior year of college, I decided to work part-time in a classroom setting to gain practical experience in child development. I was so excited to apply the knowledge I gained from pedagogy class, that I spoke with my professor about it. They were all very supportive and accommodated my schedule so that I could work part-time in child care as an Assistant Toddler Teacher. At first, I didn’t think I would like working with such young children, but I eventually fell in love with the students and the families too. The following year I decided to enroll in classes to earn my Child Development Associate (CDA) in Preschool Education. Once I earned my CDA, my Early Childhood Education career took off. I went on to work in a new child care center as a Lead Preschool Teacher, which led me to be promoted to Pre-Kindergarten. This also came with a raise which really motivated me to keep climbing the ladder in my career. I eventually reached the role of Assistant Director. I have taught second grade as well as fourth grade in Madrid (Spain) and adults in Krakow (Poland). Once the pandemic hit, I returned back home to the United States where all of the schools were shut down. This is when I decided to step out on faith and open my own home child care. My mission is to provide working families with quality and affordable child care by facilitating cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development through hands-on learning in a comfortable home setting. TaDa Childcare provides meals, potty training, Spanish, Mandarin, sign language, yoga, and kindergarten readiness. We exceeded the State’s expectations, which led to us being awarded three stars by the Michigan Department of Education’s Great Start to Quality program within six months of opening, as well as a one-year anniversary ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Macomb County Chamber of Commerce. We strive to be a pillar in the community, to be known for quality child care, and for having a passion for educating future scholars of Michigan!

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my social media presence through my business page TaDa Childcare on Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok. After that, I made sure to share content from my business page with different industry-related groups on Facebook to spread the word about my business, as well as network with other childcare providers. I also created my own childcare owners’ group for networking purposes. This social media marketing strategy has proven to be very effective in brand awareness as well as attracting new families to my childcare.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What helped me build a good reputation in the Early Childhood Education field was starting from the lowest position and working my way to the top. I honestly think that has given me a deeper appreciation for all of the moving parts involved with child care, as well as an understanding of how every moment is valuable to the children’s well-being. I also think that going to several in-house trainings, national conferences, and beginning a merger of several different Early Childhood Education (ECE) organizations, demonstrated my passion and dedication to the field to my superiors. I’ve always passed my teacher observations which are documented so that any district, county, or center that I teach in will have a record of my exemplary teaching and leadership skills. I really love what I do and I think that’s the main thing that has kept me motivated in the Early Childhood Education (ECE) industry.
