We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Aleesha Johnson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Aleesha thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I ‘m a ‘touch the stove to see if it’s hot’ person. To many people that isn’t an ideal trait, but I like to figure things out on my own. Risk and experience have propelled my life in many directions. I know if things don’t work as planned, it adds to my story. Every day you wake up, you decide how your day will go. You can intentionally play it safe or intentionally take a risk.
I’ve learned many times, someone else’s experience has nothing to do with me. We are all beings with different ways of thinking, routines and connections (to self, others and Spirit).
When I started Favor Skin, I had many people tell me how hard it was to run a business. They were right.
I didn’t let that change my mind, that’s where drive & magic happen.
It’s rewarding to create something from an idea and watch it bloom.
You’ll never know what you’re capable of, if you don’t ‘touch the stove’.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Favor Skin started as a D.I.Y creative outlet. At first I was making products for my sensitive skin, and peers started to take notice. Favor Skin has now evolved into a self-care space with many different offerings from body care to mental health. Our most recent product is ‘The Self-Care Journal’. A dateless, guided journal filled with writing prompts, planning pages and monthly affirmations for self-care.
As Favor Skin evolves, I want people to know that self-care is deeper than skin care. The world is vast and problems happen. We are here to help in all aspects of your daily needs. Skincare to mental health.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The mission that continues to drive me is simply my younger self. As someone now in my early thirties I’ve realized how much self-doubt has played a role in my growth early on. As an act of awareness and progress I like to challenge myself. I push forward with ideas even if I’m unsure how they will be perceived.
Fear holds us back, and is often not what it seems.
The more I practice being uncomfortable in uncertainty, the easier it becomes to share new ideas. As a creative it can be terrifying to put yourself out there, but it’s necessary for growth. You never know who you may impact.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is hearing I’ve inspired someone. Sometimes they take the leap into entrepreneurship as well, or they simply agree with my businesses mission. I enjoy receiving feedback about how my products have made others feel. I love when others show gratitude for themselves through self-care rituals.
