We recently connected with Richard Wygand and have shared our conversation below.
Richard , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
Sooner, I actually tried a few times, but I didn’t persue because I was told my art taste was evil and I believe it. That happened as a kid, and the fear of being evil left me paranoid for years. That lead me to years of depression and self hate.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I just started and my art it’s all independent. It’s actually something new, because I was 39 years when I finally lost the fear and decide to explore my sensitivitive side. So, I went back to school but this time the school of rock, and bulit my art from groind zero into becoming a one man band. I do music with my kids, they give me the ideas or the name of the songs that they want me to make a punk rock version. That is the best part! I just launched my first album and I have a lot more stuff coming. I also write books, and just published my first big book, which is an autobiography, about becoming a dad, as far as I know my book have helped a few parents out there. And my music brings a lot of joy to kids (children and innerchild) that already heard. But the best part of my art is my music, that is what touches my soul.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Well, I basically had to unlearn everything I ever knew in order to do my art. My background is catholic and my art is heavy metal and punk rock, so growing up it was basically a kind of hell because all the art that I was attracted too was considered evil all around me. Having said that, I had to unlearn, literally, unlearn everything I learned. That’s what my book is about.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
My views are simple: I don’t even know what it is, that’s say it all (😜).
