We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dimitry Loiseau a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Dimitry, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later?
Knowing what I know now, I definitely would start sooner. I started my business after realizing that, what I was studying in school at the time, was not what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. And, of course, you go through the motions of regret and excitement all at the time. You’re basically trying to figure out if you’ve made the best decision for yourself.
At the same time, I truly believe that everything happens for a reason, even if you’re not aware of what the reason is. I think life has a way of rewarding us for not knowing but more so in trusting the process and enjoying the journey.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started my business well over 15 years ago. It’s in the creative space. I’m an international visual director, which includes photography, videography and post production. Some of clients include fashion brands and labels, companies, and individuals.
I really take pride in the work that I do. I enjoy helping others to be successful and adding my part in this equation. Being in the fashion and entertainment business for this long has allowed me to bring my expertise to various clients. I can help them avoid common pitfalls and help them make decisions that can prove to be advantageous for their respective businesses and brands.
Every brand and company needs visuals that will set them apart. I’m grateful that I get to be a part of this process, definitely something to be proud of.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Throughout my career, I’ve learned how to pivot. Not reinvent the wheel but just make some adjustments that allow you to move forward successfully. A little over 13 years ago, learning how to pivot in a world that was becoming all digital, from cameras to film/TV talent, to how magazines went from print to digital, etc. And now, more recently, with the pandemic, this was another time where all of us had to learn how to pivot. There was still work that needed to be done, brands that needed to stay relevant. And, so I was able to create ways where I could be of use and in demand for the clients I had. Thankfully, it worked and we’re all able to grow together.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I was self funded. 100%. Of course, this took quite a bit of time. In the beginning of my career, I was hustling a full time job, while trying to grow my budding career in the creative space. After you take care of your living expenses, food, and other things, there’s not much left over to purchase $20k of equipment all in one shot, especially if you’re looking for quality equipment. But I hung in there, and eventually was able to make it happen.
