Whiskey, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How do you think about vacations as a business owner? Do you take them and if so, how? If you don’t, why not?
I do take vacations from time to time. As a passionate artist and motivated workaholic, I find myself never stopping until my body starts to tell me and forces me to take a break. The thought of going on vacation oftentimes will stress me out as I may get behind on things and productivity slows down, but the truth of the matter is, as reluctant as I am to take a break, rest does improve morale and sharpen the mind which helps the process overall. I always do bring a little of my work with me on vacation though. Shhh don’t tell.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Going back to my roots as a musician and composer, all my friends were musicians and played in bands in Los Angeles. I would go to their shows at night to shoot photos of their concerts and take pics of us all having a good time. Concert photography has a lot of challenges with movement and lighting, so it was a lot of good practice to build a foundation on, and I loved every minute of it. So a shout out to all my musician friends following their dreams and living the hustle to do what they love.
A large portion of my business also grew from doing club and event photography. Like concert photography, working through crowds of people in the dark with colored flashing lights can also be challenging. You really have to be ready for anything, adjusting your settings and communicating with people quickly while being friendly and approachable. This would require me to work late hours at night and I’d still have to get up early for work and post edits the next day. Shooting at events can be so fun though, so I’d still have the adrenaline going through me from the night before to keep me going through the next day and get ready for the next long night.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
What I find rewarding and keeps me pushing forward as an artist is the joy photography can bring people. Whether it sparks a memory from that moment in time or simply has the ability to make people feel something, certain photos can really connect with people on different levels. It is most encouraging and gratifying when people will take the time to share photos I have taken of them. I hope it shows by the volume and quality I put out that people see how much passion and dedication goes into my craft.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Through my love of photography, I hope to create a legacy of memories for others, capturing images that connect people to a time and place, whether it be out in nature, an urban landscape, or at an event with friends. I find myself reflecting on photos I have taken and remembering the experiences we shared at that time. My overall goal and what I believe sets me apart from others is the ability to create memories through photography, as it is more than just still images but an experience.
