We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Michelle Cochran a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Michelle thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. One of the most important things small businesses can do, in our view, is to serve underserved communities that are ignored by giant corporations who often are just creating mass-market, one-size-fits-all solutions. Talk to us about how you serve an underserved community.
SKINWITHMICHELLE is serving the skin condition cuties, one condition at a time! I study herbs & oils to bring you the best natural remedies for your face & hair. We serve the people who can’t afford hundred in skin care but still need quality & results. I pop up at local farmers markets. So I meet people daily who are struggling with acne, eczema, psoriasis, dark spots, and so many other conditions. Sometimes people can’t afford my low prices & I love to gift kits to people in need. That’s my way of giving back & I know it changes their life. SKINWITHMICHELLE seen there was a gap in the industry for affordable, quality skin care. We filled the void.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
SKINWITHMICHELLE is an all natural skin care line. Michelle makes custom kits for every client while recommending exactly what you need for your skin. All of our items are reasonably priced to make it accessible to most people. Michelle started her brand by healing her own cystic acne with different remedies. I’ve healed thousands of peoples skin in the last 4 years in business.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I recommend when you’re getting into social media. Stay true to yourself. Stay organic & don’t get trendy. Always network on and off social media. If you want to grow with social media study it through YouTube videos. Real connections are always better for business than a quantity of followers that don’t relate to your niche. So 1 person that loves skin care and follows you is better than 100 followers that only care about sports cars.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
For skin care I have noticed that one on one interactions are the most successful. Whether that be in person or through messages. When it comes to peoples skin they want one on one attention. Similar to when they’re at the doctor. So doing local markets has been the best for my business.
