We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kelly Sweet a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kelly , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
A defining moment in my career was when I realized that the areas I have healed in were areas where I could help other people. Although I will never know someone’s exact experience, I can empathize and provide a unique perspective. After my healing journey, I recognized the power of helping others using my education, training, and personal experience. I also saw people around me who suffered and did not have the tools or the resources to start their healing process. I had a deep desire to see people healed, well, and whole. After recognizing the demand to help those struggling mentally and emotionally, I knew I wanted to reach others beyond what I could do as a life coach. I started the journey to becoming a clinical psychologist. One lesson I learned is that something that was once painful can be used for a bigger purpose.

Kelly , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am currently studying to be a clinical psychologist. I also work as a counselor and a life coach. Ever since I can remember, I have always had a love for people and felt a desire to see them well. When I discovered how I could encourage others through writing, speaking, and counseling, I knew mental health was an avenue I had to pursue.
As an advocate of healing, wellness, and wholeness, I aim to use my words to help people heal. I work with clients one-one in therapy, write inspirational books, poetry, and music, and do speaking engagements to help others heal and reach their full potential.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
If I could go back, I would choose the same profession. Although I did not know the details about my career when I was younger, everything I do aligns with my natural gifts and talents. As a child, I knew I wanted to be a writer and had a passion for helping others. Being able to make a career out of my passions is a beautiful thing.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
A supportive community is always helpful. When times are difficult, having support and others regarding personal or academic issues is beneficial. My support system includes loved ones, colleagues, and outside groups.
