We were lucky to catch up with Kaili Meyer recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kaili, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry?
Copywriting, as a skill, is simply understanding what your customers need to hear and feel in order to persuade them to purchase from you (or work with you). In my opinion, telling relatable, compelling stories and connecting with people on an emotional level is the best way to drive sales and create lasting customer loyalty. It’s about buyer psychology and trust. However, I see a lot of marketing tactics steeply rooted in scarcity, shame, and fear. These strategies might “work,” but they’re not sustainable and they lack integrity. I don’t think they happen due to malicious intentions or anything like that — I believe it’s simply a resistance to change as our consumers change. Old advertising worked because at the time, that’s what consumers wanted to see, read, and feel. Now, things are changing! People want to feel good about the brands and businesses they work with and buy from. They want shopping to feel like an experience — collaborative and centered on relationships. That’s precisely the types of brands we work with at Reveal Studio Co. Companies that care about their customers and see them as more than transactions. I think as more people shift away from outdated sales tactics they’ll start to see upticks in sales. I’m excited to continue watching the advertising and marketing worlds “grow up” in a sense and begin to expand this ecosystem of mutual respect, connection, and abundance.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m the founder and CEO of Reveal Studio Co. A copywriting and brand strategy firm focused on helping primarily female-founded brands grow and sell more through strategic messaging! We fuse storytelling with traditional marketing methods to create this sort of hybrid between journalism and sales. Our favorite services include web copy, sales emails, and brand naming. When someone realizes, “Hey, our products aren’t selling like they used to” or “I’m not sure my website accurately reflects who we are and why people should choose us,” they contact Reveal and we take the reigns. And what’s really neat about being a copywriter is that we’re IN IT with our clients. We’re helping them develop their brand messaging from the ground up and partnering with them through so many growth phases — getting to watch and play a role in their expansion and elevation. Our clients are innovators in their fields and truly pushing the envelope as far as standards, results, and methods of getting shit done, so being part of that is truly an honor.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
Continuing to build relationships with our clients long after their projects are complete is really important to us. We love to check in via email or social media periodically and especially when big life events happen like weddings, moves, starting a family, etc. We’ve even had clients visit Arizona and reach out to grab food or drinks! Because we’re a small business, we have the ability to foster long lasting relationships that feel more like friendships than business partnerships.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
The copywriting space feels both tiny and massive at the same time. There’s a pretty large spectrum when it comes to experience and quality and for someone who’s never hired a copywriter before I can imagine it would feel difficult knowing who to trust and what to look for in a professional. What’s helped us build a solid reputation and clientele is complete transparency and willingness to call out shadiness within our industry. Not only are we transparent about our own strategies, methods, and ideas, we’re transparent about whether we believe we’re the best option for each specific project. If we ever feel like someone else would be a better fit to serve you, we’ll tell you and even go as far as making that connection! We know how important and impactful your copywriting is and we want to be 100% sure you receive the best quality possible. And as far as our social media presence goes, we’ve built a reputation for being pretty blunt and outspoken. There are a lot of bad characters in the online space and we’re not afraid to talk about it and inform people on how to spot them.
