Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Caitlin Weerts. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Caitlin, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
Oh, the story of Pleasant Hill Co. is as colorful as a patchwork quilt and as heartwarming as a cup of hot cocoa on a snowy day! It’s a tale of dreams and determination, passion and perseverance, and of turning life’s little detours into the scenic route.
Picture this: I was a city girl, living a fast-paced life in bustling Seattle and Minneapolis, working in the high-stakes world of medical sales. My days were filled with meetings, presentations, and countless hours on the road. But amidst all the hustle and bustle, I found solace in design and crafts. It was my creative outlet, my sanctuary, my bliss.
I’d always loved transforming spaces, and friends often sought my advice for their homes. Their rooms became my canvas, their dreams my inspiration. And every time, the joy it brought me was as satisfying as sinking into a plush armchair after a long day. It was like a spark that lit my heart, filling me with warmth and happiness.
Then love swept me off my feet and into the arms of a 5th generation farmer. This led to a move to the countryside, where the population is more likely to be counted in cows than in people! Living in such a rural area was a significant adjustment for a city slicker like me. But it was during this time that I discovered a profound truth – the needs within a home in a rural area are different than those in the city.
This realization was like a lightbulb moment, illuminating a path I hadn’t seen before. It sparked the idea of starting a business dedicated to helping folks like me navigate their design decisions without feeling overwhelmed. A business that would bring professional design services and solutions to rural areas where access to such resources was limited.
But was it a worthwhile endeavor? Could I succeed? These questions swirled around like autumn leaves in a gust of wind. But each time, my heart answered with a resounding ‘yes’ because I knew I had something unique to offer – a blend of city sophistication and country charm, a keen understanding of rural living, and a passion for creating beautiful, functional spaces.
And so, armed with a dream, a vision, and courage, I embarked on this exciting journey. And thus, Pleasant Hill Co. was born. A company that’s not just about creating beautiful homes and weaving stories, sparking joy, and making dreams come true.
So there you have it, dear readers. The story of how a city girl turned farm wife found her calling amidst cornfields and cows. It’s been an incredible journey, filled with challenges and triumphs, laughter and tears. But every step of the way, it’s been worth it. Because at the end of the day, there’s nothing quite like the joy of helping someone create a home that truly feels like theirs.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Twirling through the whirlwind of design and creation, there’s a vibrant thread that weaves together all the delightful stories we help unfold at Pleasant Hill Co. It’s a mission that beats like a heart, driving our creative journey with passion and purpose.
Our goal? It’s as radiant as a South Dakota sunset and as comforting as a warm quilt on a chilly night. We aim to transform houses into homes, spaces into sanctuaries, and rooms into reflections of the beautiful souls who dwell within them.
We’re not just picking out curtains or selecting paint colors – we’re crafting stories. Stories that echo with laughter, whisper with dreams and hum with the rhythm of daily life. Each home carries its own melody, its own rhythm, and it’s our joy to help you discover yours.
Our mission is to make the magic of good design accessible to everyone, no matter where they live. We believe that every person deserves a space that mirrors their dreams, celebrates their story, and fills their heart with joy. And we’re committed to bringing this vision to life, one room at a time.
This goal fuels our creative journey, guiding us like a North Star through the thrilling maze of design decisions. It inspires us to learn, grow, and push our boundaries constantly. And it’s what makes every project a heart-thumping adventure filled with twists, turns, and beautiful surprises.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Absolutely! It’s been quite a journey, filled with unexpected twists and turns, but I wouldn’t trade it for a moment. You see, resilience has been my constant companion every step of the way.
When I transitioned from a career in medical sales to becoming a stay-at-home farm wife, it was a leap of faith that took me out of my comfort zone. I traded skyscrapers and hustle for cornfields and cows, conference calls for tractor rides. It was a world away from everything I knew, but I embraced it wholeheartedly.
Then came the joy of welcoming two beautiful stepdaughters into my life. Learning to navigate the intricacies of a blended family brought its own unique challenges, but it also brought immense love and fulfillment.
My husband and I dreamed of expanding our family, but we faced unexpected hurdles. We weathered the storm of infertility, experiencing heartbreak and loss. These were some of the darkest days of my life, but they also taught me about strength, perseverance, and the power of hope.
During this time, we also embarked on a full home remodel. And when I say full, I mean taking off the roof kind of full! It was a massive undertaking that tested our patience and resolve. But it also fueled my passion for creating beautiful, functional spaces, eventually leading to the birth of Pleasant Hill Co.
Then came the birth of our miracle baby, after a high-risk pregnancy that ended with six long weeks in the NICU. Those weeks were some of the most emotionally draining of my life. But they also showed me the power of faith, the strength of a mother’s love, and the miracles that can happen when you refuse to give up.
Throughout all these experiences, I discovered a profound truth – that even in the midst of life’s biggest storms, there is always a reason to keep going, to keep dreaming, to keep creating. This realization led me to create Prairie Collective, a haven for creative entrepreneurs to connect, collaborate, and grow together.
So yes, my journey has been filled with hurdles and heartaches. But it’s also been filled with hope, healing, and the kind of happiness that can only come from turning life’s lemons into lemonade. It’s been an adventure of resilience and determination, one that has shaped me into the woman I am today. And for that, I’m incredibly grateful.
