We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nubia Soul Goddess . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nubia Soul Goddess below.
Nubia Soul Goddess , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I’ve loved music and the arts of various formats ever since I was a young child. But I made the decision to pursue it professionally after a couple of summers we spent taking cruises to different countries in my early teens.
At the time, the plan was to attend the Art Institute for culinary arts and work on a cruise ship as a chef and an entertainer on cruise ships.
But by my Junior year in high school, everything changed for me, and my life took on a different role. Instead of graduating from high school, I got my GED, and forfeited college at the time to focus on being a mommy.
Scariest moment in my life and one of the most rewarding moments in my life.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Nubia Soul Goddess, an international recording music artist and bestselling author of currently 5 books.
My passion, goal, and purpose is to help others heal and grow through my own life stories and talents that I transfigure into tangible things, such as music and books.
I’m also a student and practitioner of spiritual and African traditions of which is visible in many of my works.
I consult on all of the above while striving to maintain a full schedule as an active artist with performance shows, writing, running a business, being a parent, being a priestess and pursuing my college degree (finally) lol.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Common sense is not common, and that’s actually a good thing.
It’s a phrase that has been used forever but in a negative or degrading way, and I think people need to pay more attention to the words that they say to others and about others in that regard.
Because the reality is, in order for things to be common sense, you would have to be taught that thing.
The world is not made of people who are all the same, who look the same, who think the same, who are raised the same, and so on and so forth. We all come from varied backgrounds and experiences which afford us the ability to be our own individuals.
One should never ridicule another about something that they are not aware of and that they have not had the experience of yet.
Looking at the most recent Netflix special with Oprah and Viola Davis, this point is made beautifully and I think male and female will do themselves a great justice and learning that common sense is not supposed to be common.
Being uncommon is what makes us beautifully unique.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative, is working with award-winning writers, artists, producers and musicians who genuinely enjoy working with me. They challenged me in areas that I am shy about. They have expanded my writing ability across all platforms.
