Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sharissa R. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sharissa, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
The mission behind Tell Me Smthn Good is simply to highlight ‘The Good’. There is so much going on around us, personally as well as a community and it seems most of the time the bad things get all the highlights and glory. It just feels good to hear some good and to bring light to the good that is going on. On Tuesday’s we have a dedicated day for those that follow us to “Tell Me Smthn Good”…big or small. I have gotten a lot of engagement from my friends and community who look forward to sharing their good and reading the good that others would like to share as well. I have taken a break from it because at times I didn’t feel like I was in a good space to share something good myself, but I realize that all days may not be good days but you still have to look within to see the good. OR just enjoy the good in others and that energy will find you. I will be starting back “Tell Me Smthn Good Tuesday” so be sure to follow us and participate!

Sharissa, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I graduated from WSSU with a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Graphics. I started a freelance graphic design business and have gone through a number of “rebrands” myself trying to find my niche within the community. Shortly after my grandmother passed away in 2019, an idea was birthed to start a business and name it “Tell Me Smthn Good”. Anytime I’d have a conversation with my grandma and she was told some news she didn’t know before, she would say or sing “Tell Me Something Good”, sarcastically. I knew it would eventually come to me, and it did. I decided to create greeting cards, dedicated to my community, geared behind the music and experiences I grew up with. I also wanted my brand to be inspirational and uplifting. The messages on my cards can not be found in CVS, Walgreens, or Dollar Tree (yet). I also have dedicated Tuesdays to ” Tell Me Smthn Good Tuesday” where my followers highlight “Smthn Good”…big or small. I like the idea of reminding or bringing light to smthn good, despite the hardships that the world may have going on. And that is the overall message behind my brand, Share Smthn Good!

Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.
Doing proper research and learning about the greeting card market was definitely new for me. I did my research and learned what I needed to try to manufacture my own prints. I got the printer, I got the ink, I got the paper and gave it a try on my own. As much as I tried, made adjustments, and tried new papers, the quality was not to my liking. So I did my research and reached out to a local printer, who took the time to figure out what I was looking for and provides excellent services. As far as my t-shirt printing – I learned years ago how to design t-shirts with Vinyl, however, I also learned that with t-shirt printing you are either going to spend money, or spend time. When it came to creating t-shirts for Tell Me Smthn Good, I decided I would have someone else to make the shirts for me. However, as i said, you either will sacrifice time or money, and in this case having someone else to print the shirts for me was more cost-efficient. Especially when starting up. Ive decided to get back to using what I know until I feel comfortable with getting another vendor. You have to do what you can with what you have until you an do more. Thats the lesson I’ve learned.

Any fun sales or marketing stories?
When starting with Tell Me Smthn Good, I jumped out into the vendor market and started paying to be apart of events. Honestly, I loved it..being able to tell people about my brand in person sparked so much joy. I got a lot of great feedback from customers and other business owners who were apart of those vendor events which also led me to make some major connections. I believe this next go around I will try to push myself more on social media platforms and get my name known more.
