We were lucky to catch up with Miguel Crandell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Miguel , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Being in the game as young as I was, when it came down to thinking about college I knew that I would have to make a huge decision. I was blessed to have extremely supportive parents. No matter what happened in their day to day lives, they still managed to always provide as best they could for my sister Melody and I. Part of me never thought I’d ever see the day I would live in another state, my whole life I saw the same cold streets. I dropped everything I had in Denver to pursue my career as an entertainer in LA. Working as a Pro Assistant at Hollywood Vibe Dance Convention, it opened many doors for me prior to my move. It had also played a huge influence on wanting to take my career to the next level in Hollywood.
My whole life, I had always dreamed of living in Los Angeles the stakes were high and I took a life changing jump. To do this day I do not regret my decision one bit. The rooms, events, and opportunities that I’ve been able to be apart of just months into living in California have been life changing. Now, one year into my move, my mind has shifted into the Executive Producer mindset. I am now teamed up with CEO of Battery Acid LLC, Ella Sweeney as a Co-Producer on Los Angeles Center Studios in Downtown Los Angeles. Battery Acid is a dance company that trains aspiring choreographers, commercial dancers, and artists before stepping into the industry in the heart of LA. Within Battery Acid we encourage our members to always take risks as a dancer, many tend to be comfortable in one place but a risk can change your career when taken correctly. My mentor and Artistic Director of Hollywood Vibe, Liz Imperio always says, “Greatness is a choice”. If you choose to take the risk you are more then likely to see result.
Miguel , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Originally from Denver, Colorado I was fourteen years old when I first stepped foot into the entertainment industry. Colorado rap legends Hypnautic and King Tef of Top Flite Empire discovered me as a dancer and brought me on tour with them on stages for years all over Colorado. By sixteen I had opened for countless national headlining acts, won National Dancer of the Year for Hollywood Vibe Dance Convention, and this was when I first began experimenting making music. Now, I am living in Los Angeles as a nineteen year old touring recording artist, choreographer, creative producer, and commercial dancer represented by GO2Talent Agency. I have also teamed up with Top Flite Empire for the launch of Qoncert App, a digital app available in all app and google play stores that allows local artists to go from fan, too opener, to headliner within their cities. My dream is to shift the culture of the entertainment industry and be a reference point for artists around the world to never stop creating and to always use the recourses that they are provided.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Whenever there is a moment with a stage, microphone, audience and an opportunity to showcase my ability that is when I feel most rewarded as an artist. I have had to step foot on many stages before ever being able to headline or be in position to perform my own music live. Not op of that, making money while doing it, I am a very vulnerable artist one you really get to know me, another moment where I feel the most rewarded is when my two year old twin cousins stop what they are doing, run to the T.V. screen and watch whenever my music video “Sometimes ” plays. It blows my mind every time. Family is everything to me and I am so lucky to have such a big one.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
My most creative moments are typically when I’m in the least creative environments. I can’t help but only choreograph dance steps while in a car, I write my favorite songs while on the plane, and my favorite thing to do is make music with my best friends Mundo and Satic in our living room studio. Creativity is in all of us, without it there wouldn’t ever be events planned for families to bring their kids too, holiday parades, 4th of July fireworks, concerts, musicals, movies. Those are all ideas that were once creatively produced by more than likely groups of people. If one feels they lack creativity hang around someone who feels like they are creative and feed off their energy, sometimes that can be what you need to break out of your shell. That is something that needs to be done prior to stepping into any situation but especially the industry.
