Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Michael Brown. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Michael, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
Late in the year 2021 I got a few opportunities to start filming some extreme sports. I was having so much fun filming some professional athletes such as scooter riders, Dirt bike racers and others. I knew I needed to step it up in the beginning of 2022, I had one Goal in mind, to film some BASE Jumpers. If you don’t know what that is, it is the people who jump from a cliff edge with a parachute. I knew this type of filming is of the highest risk, so I did much preparation to get myself prepared to try to get some people to work with me. First thing I did was begin to research all things BASE. I also reached out to some buddies who already have been filming these types of events for tips/tricks and things to be safe of. After I felt I knew enough I started researching areas that often people would do BASE jumping and I became familiar with these mountains. Once I felt I had accumulated enough knowledge to do this, I started messaging everybody I could find who was BASE jumping. I eventually got lucky that I started talking with a BASE jumper who was very experienced and willing to work with me. This gentleman was named Chandler and he forever changed how I look at filming entirely. So we made plans for a location we were both familiar with and the date was set, we’re doing this. At this point my nerves and excitement where both at an all time high. I show up at the location and the nerves kick into high gear, it’s go time. I talk with the guys for a second and the wait begins while they begin to scale the back of the mountain to get to the top where they will be jumping. I search around for a good location to launch my drone and get a good feel for the wind and the lighting. (even though I’ve flown this area many times) Me and Chandler have walkie talkies to communicate, I hear Chandler saying “alright we are ready.” It’s go time, I Put my goggles on, get my Drone on the landing mat and it’s launch time. I fly my FPV style drone up to the cliff face where I see Chandler standing on the edge pumping his fist at me in excitement for the jump. Here we are all that hard work lead up to this. He jumps and I followed him down until is Parachute opened. At this point all my stress and worry disappeared and I just felt this out of body experience as though me and chandler were just floating down together, He lands safely, and I land down on my mat safe as well. It went flawlessly and I was beyond excited. This moment would put me as one of the premier people to call in Arizona for all things Base filming. I think the Preparation was the main reason for my success. Prepare yourself for success and you never know how far it may take you.

Michael, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Michael Brown, but on Social media I’m known as @mickeymediaproductions. I’m a Videographer and photographer who mostly uses Drones for my work. I have been flying drones since 2016 and have been a photographer since 2012. The Drones started mostly as a fun thing to do until I realized what power they have in filmmaking. One thing I work the hardest to do is to be the best person I can be, both professionally and on a personal level. I think my open mind and safe mentality is what sets me apart and gives these BASE jumpers the comfort to work with me. If I was to have a goal in this life it would just be to help capture special moments in others lives via a camera, and also to be a part of those special moments.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
In the Video creation world there is no better place to meet and collaborate with other creatives than Instagram. Facebook and other socials are good for video views and just to get seen. For some reason there is a different thing about connecting on Instagram that just works.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
My dedication to working hard in the safest manner possible is probably the reason I am where I am.
