Hi Kimberlyn, thanks for joining us today. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?

In my current role as the CEO of Perfect Three Photography, I’ve taken on the responsibility of managing the business’s social media presence. Reflecting on my experience, I’d like to offer valuable advice to aspiring business owners or those contemplating starting their own ventures. The journey of entrepreneurship can be challenging, requiring you to fulfill multiple roles and face obstacles. It’s crucial not to lose heart and to keep pushing forward, even when the path seems tough. As a new business owner, you’ll often find yourself juggling various tasks. Embrace this diversity of roles, as it helps you understand every aspect of your business and strengthens your problem-solving skills. Don’t hesitate to lean on the support of friends and family. Their encouragement, advice, and assistance can make a significant difference in your entrepreneurial journey. Surrounding yourself with a network of positivity can help you stay motivated and resilient.

My life journey took a unique path, one that led me to prioritize family before completing my college education. This decision put my dreams and career aspirations on hold. In a twist of fate, I was then confronted with another challenge when I was diagnosed with cancer in 2018. It felt as though my life had been reset, and I had to start from scratch. Following my treatment, which concluded in 2019, I began to witness the gradual reassembly of the pieces of my life. Although my family faced hardships, we discovered the value of prioritizing well-being over material possessions. In support of my health, my husband made the selfless decision to leave his job and care for me and our daughters.

In 2020, I resolved to resume my education, despite the added complexity brought about by the pandemic. Determined, I persevered through the challenges and nearly completed my prerequisites when I received surprising news: I was expecting a baby. This revelation was unexpected, especially given the medical advice I had received following my chemotherapy treatments. While grappling with mixed emotions, I questioned the timing of this development, particularly as I had committed to my educational pursuits. However, my faith has taught me that God’s plans are often mysterious and far-reaching, leading me to believe that a unique purpose awaited me.

Throughout my life, my passion for photography has burned brightly, largely thanks to my father who gifted me my first camera at the tender age of six. A Barbie-pink camera accompanied by a photo album sparked my love for capturing moments and preserving cherished memories. Despite life’s twists and turns, my husband’s thoughtful gesture of gifting me my next camera left me with no excuses but to chase my long-held dream. Thus, in the early days of 2023, Perfect Three Photography was born, marking the beginning of a new chapter.

My primary goal in wielding my camera is to honor God’s glory, followed closely by my commitment to my family’s well-being. I aspire to contribute positively to the lives of my daughters by building something meaningful and lasting. Witnessing the satisfaction and gratitude of my clients as they marvel at the pictures I’ve taken is a reward beyond measure. I hold close to my heart a touching testimony from a mother who thanked me for helping her feel beautiful and empowered through photography. Her past insecurities had prevented her from capturing moments with her family, but the images we created together bridged that gap. Her joy was so profound that she wanted to preserve every single photograph.

With every click of my camera, I seek to impact lives in a way that radiates positivity and fosters self-confidence. Life’s unexpected turns have led me down this path, and I am unwaveringly committed to embracing the opportunities that lie ahead.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?

Securing funding for my photography venture feels like a divine blessing from above. As mentioned earlier, my journey began with a meaningful gift from my husband—a professional camera that unlocked the doors to my passion. Beyond this initial spark, an outpouring of support from cherished friends and family has fueled my aspirations. Importantly, my father generously contributed funds for a new lens, showing how much he believes in my dreams. His enthusiastic support is like a strong boost that’s helping my business grow in the future.

While my journey is marked by divine blessings and familial backing, a substantial portion of my funding emanates from the shoots I’ve undertaken. Through a mutually beneficial arrangement known as “time for print” (TFP), I collaborate with aspiring models keen on building their portfolios. This collaboration is instrumental in honing my skills and expanding my own portfolio, and as such, neither party charges a fee. This symbiotic relationship not only nurtures creative growth but also forms a unique avenue for funding my endeavors.

These multifaceted sources of funding, combined with the genuine support of those who believe in my vision, propel me forward with profound gratitude. As my business blossoms and evolves, I am humbled by the combination of heavenly providence, familial care, and collaborative opportunities that have come together to shape my journey in the world of photography.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?

I connected with my business partner through the internet. Interestingly, my business partner is also my spouse, and together, we are blessed with three wonderful daughters. Notably, he has played a pivotal role by providing substantial financial and emotional support. His multifaceted skills and talents have greatly enriched our collaboration. Alongside being an adept manager and coach, he’s also a proficient content creator, wearing several hats that contribute to our venture’s success. Recognizing his diverse skill set, I invited him on board to enhance our creative endeavors, and he also serves as our skilled videographer.
