We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Shalah Turner. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Shalah below.
Shalah, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
I make a six-figure salary by creating digital products. In 2018 I experienced a mentally draining year and decided that I wanted to look into creating products that did not require me to be physically present. I launched my first ebook. After that I became a student of digital offers and in addition to launching over 37 for myself and my son, I have helped over 1500 people do the same. This was no overnight thing. My first ebook made close to $200 a month but it showed me the possibilities. Within 2 years we hit the six-figure mark without running a single ad. I made a lot of errors along the way and now what I have done in 3 years clients are able to see in nearly six months and some shorter.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I have been in business for almost 9 years. In 2019 we moved from business strategy to solely digital products. I now teach others how to make their own ebooks in fact we have helped hundreds launch profitable ebooks through our one day ebook course found at www.digitalideabank.com. My goal is to help as many people as possible use digital products to monetize their knowledge.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I have always mentored and worked with youth. I am particularly passionate about working with those who have experienced incarceration. In 2018 one of my mentees was sentenced to 21 years in prison. I mentally checked out and business suffered greatly. I realized in that moment that I was not a machine. I needed to create a business that allowed me to do my heart work and also heal.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I started showing up. Every day I would post something no matter how much I did not like it. I started posting daily and genuinely engaging with my audience. Learning about your followers, and supporting them all of that goes into being social. It is not about you, find out what they need and be there.
