We recently connected with Lauren Scott and have shared our conversation below.
Lauren, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
After several years of working as a mental health therapist in in-home settings, working with clients and families with very complex and difficult traumatic histories, I found myself burnt out and struggling to feel connected to my work. I knew I needed something different to continue on in the field.
At that time, I was able to take clients for walks and I knew how powerful it was to go to parks and be out in nature.
On a whim, I started to research outdoor therapy and the field of Ecopsychology emerged in my study. I was immediately intrigued.
I found myself signing up for a training in California without much thought. In September I traveled to Marin County and stated a whole new adventure.
Those 8 days of being with a community of healers and forging a deep connection with nature amongst redwoods and sequoias inspired a deep love and friendship with the earth and fellow humans.
One defining moment of the experience was when I volunteered during a demo session to be the client. It was my turn to explore a topic and allow my inner wisdom and the land to speak to me. I don’t remember the details of what we covered but I remember being so seen and held both by nature and the group. I remember the smell of the woods, the love and connection I felt, and the profound gratitude for being alive on the planet. I was forever changed.
I learned how powerful our intentions are, how powerful we are when we join together, and how important it is to learn to be still and listen deeply in our current world.

Lauren, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I own a private practice that helps women who are figuring out the next season of their lives, figuring out if they want to have kids, if they are with the right partner and want to live more authentically. I help women build stronger boundaries and forge self worth through daily practices and habits and bold simple action that helps them be who they are meant to be.
I offer both individual therapy, courses, and life coaching to support the growth and self worth of women in my community.
My story sets me apart, I am a single mom who is messy and simple and an over comer and I know what it feels like to question my belonging and worth and the daily practice to move toward my dreams.
I am most proud of the clients I’ve worked with that have taken risks to live more authentically, left jobs, relationships, aligned to their authentic sexual expression and have advocated for themselves and their loved ones.
My business is a sanctuary for me and my clients and I am aligning to what that means and looks like more and more everyday.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I have had a small business for 3 years and becoming a mom has been the biggest transition of my life. I have had to make many hard decisions about what kind of life I want for me and my daughter. But it has been worth every moment of difficulty. I am so proud of who I get to be as a mom and as an entrepreneur.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I over invested in coaches, programs, courses, and free workshops without really testing my ideas in the market. I have spent over 50k to figure out what direction to go in and build the confidence to go there. I think it is important to get help and support but there is no program that will perfectly get you to your goals unless you are working the process and it still can take lots of time before it works. It will work eventually.
