We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lauren Mae . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lauren below.
Lauren, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Some of the most meaningful projects I’ve gotten to do have been with cancer non-profits. Although cancer has been the hardest thing I’ve ever walked through, it has brought so many blessings and amazing opportunities to work with incredible people and organizations. Once I started sharing my cancer journey on my YouTube channel and other social media platforms, non-profit organizations started reaching out to work together. One of the first projects I got to do was with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. There, I got to share my personal story to spread awareness and bring people to register for their annual Light The Night Walk. I also got the amazing opportunity to create content for SurvivorNet and shared my story of how Immunotherapy saved my life. It has been incredible to watch the impact cancer has had on my life and how its affected my career path.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Ever since I can remember, I have loved all things social media. I would always pick up the camera to document important moments and loved the creative process. When I was 13 years old, my parents finally let me start a YouTube channel. I would film makeup tutorials and other beauty related videos, and absolutely fell in love with it. Over the years, my videos gained popularity and my following grew. However, when I got to high school and people started finding out about them, I lost my passion and stopped. After I graduated, I got diagnosed with cancer and realized I was going to have a lot of free time on my hands. As I was trying to think of hobbies to keep me busy, I decided to start filming YouTube videos again, this time to document my cancer journey. Social media took on a new and deeper meaning as I filmed the hardest and happiest moments in my journey. Even though I have been cancer free for 4 years, I continue to share my survivorship journey and all the hardships that have come after treatment. To this day, I still receive messages from people all over the world that found my videos helpful and relatable to their own experience.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I have big goals and dreams for my creative journey. I would love to work for a non-profit organization after college. One day I hope to write my own devotional sharing my cancer journey and faith with others. I might also start my own PR agency or non-profit organization. My mission with anything is to always help others.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the community. The people I connected with when I started sharing my cancer journey helped me so much, and I loved that I was help others as well. Having that community made that experience better, and I loved that other people felt less alone watching my journey too. Another amazing thing about social media is that it connects you to people all around the world. I think it was incredible that even though I hadn’t met these people who were helping me, I was still able to talk and relate to them.
