We were lucky to catch up with Jordan Orionn recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jordan , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My parents have done a lot for not only me but also my younger brother. One aspect of their parenting that I will forever appreciate is their mission to let me know my worth as a woman. Growing up, my mom taught me that I am enough, so there was no need for me to seek attention by being promiscuous, or to act out by partaking in activities I had no business partaking in. My dad, a man, has shown me how I should be treated and have self-respect. Additionally, he’s been a great representation of confidence. True confidence that is not for other people, but for himself. I am now a young woman that still has a lot to learn, but foundationally I know my value which I will continue growing upon.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My journey started at a very young age; however, I can specifically identify the age of thirteen. I believe it was at that age that my parents noticed I truly had a passion and gift for music. As a young child, I was exposed to many music genres, such as gospel, R&B, Blues, Jazz, and HipHop, to name a few. That said, it was not until I was introduced in Amy Winehouse that I started exploring my vocal ability and writing skills. Leading me to writing songs and jiggles for films and companies. I actually wrote my first song at the age of seven, and I remember calling my father who was traveling for work at the time and singing my song over the phone to him. Since then, I have continued to write and sing, which has led to people expressing interest. Due to that, I have had amazing opportunities to perform at local and community events where I was able to cover some of my favorite songs from artists I looked up to and admire. Fast forward since then, I have been unapologetically putting myself out there which has granted me the opportunity to release my first EP in 2020 titled, “I Am Orionn” followed by my newest single “Reciprocity” which was released January 2023. In addition to my love for music, I am a lover of creativity in general. In short, I am a dream chaser who does not plan on stopping anytime soon!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Innately, I am an introverted person, but being an artist requires me to step out of my comfort bubble. This creative realm has challenged me on many occasions…whew. I would be lying if I said I am completely secure and confident when I perform. Though, over time, I have embedded in my mind that my art is worthy of being heard. When I dropped my first project, “I Am Orionn” I was nervous because that was my first independent project and debut. When I finally released it, I was extremely fulfilled!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist and being creative is the power of expression. What I could not say or had problems articulating I would write down. Being a songwriter specifically has allowed me to be my most creative self. Creating stories that I often want to experience one day in my life. Regarding acting, it’s given me the freedom to step out of who I am and into another character’s reality. Overall, creativity is an outlet that allows me to navigate several emotions and ultimately makes me happy. Furthermore, it’s an outlet that I naturally gravitated towards!
